Raybould Retires
DAVIS, Calif., Nov. 15 (AP) -- Star Sudwerk defender David Raybould has announced his retirement.
The English international, known for his excellent defensive skills and elegant play, served as a key, steadying force in Sudwerk's back line.
"We hate to see him go," said Ramal Werdna, the club president and CEO of FC Sudwerk. "He's an intelligent, classy player who is a treat to have on your side."
Raybould, 48, endured several nagging injuries that limited his play this year. A recent back strain, though, prompted him to call it quits.
The anesthesiologist joined Sudwerk after the club lost its first three games of the fall 2001 season and had an immediate impact. Thanks largely to Raybould's steadying influence, the red-and-black finished out the season strong and nearly won the league championship.
