Short Grass Trips Up FCS

DAVIS, Calif., Oct. 12 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk fell to Short Grass 4-1 on Sunday, losing for the first time ever to the club.

The defeat drops Sudwerk to 0-2-1 on the fall season and leaves the club with a tall order to fill to meet its goal of finishing the year with a winning record. The red-and-black must win three of its final four games to ensure a .500 mark.

"I know we're up to the challenge," said Ramal Werdna, the club's president and CEO. "This is a tough bunch of players, and history shows we come on strong the last half of every season."

Joseph L'Amour scored Sudwerk's lone goal late in Sunday's game after receiving a cross just inside the box from Donn Cox. It came after Short Grass tallied four goals on a defense that appeared disorganized and sluggish at times.

As usual, goalkeeper J.C. Mark delivered a spectacular performance. He made three incredible saves on breakaways.

Sudwerk's next game is 2 p.m. Sunday against Eagles. ##
