| Winter Season Opens With A Bang
DAVIS, Calif., Jan. 7, 2007 (Reuters) -- FC Sudwerk kicked off the winter season with a spirited intra-club match between its two indoor squads on Sunday, and the Red Rage walked away with bragging rights, holding on for an 8-7 victory. The Black Bombers loaned the undermanned Reds its star scorer, J.B. Rudell, and at first it appeared to be a mismatch, with the Rage dominating the first half en route to a 5-0 lead at the break. Red goalie Craig Dandurand delivered an outstanding performance, recording a rare clean sheet for a half of indoor play. But in the second half, Black pushed the tempo and finally cracked the impenetrable and stylish -- nice Croatian jersey! -- Mr. Dandurand. Black closed to within one goal with under a minute to play but could not find the equalizer in the final seconds. The Bombers caught fire in the last six minutes, scoring the game's final four goals. But it was not to be. Game balls to everyone! Welcome back Randi Field, who returned to the club after taking a year off. And welcome to the indoor madness Alex Park, Joe Jertberg and Megan Koren, who are participating on a Sudwerk indoor team for the first time. It's going to be a fun season. ## |
