It is never too early to start planning for college. Starting your freshmen year at Franklinton, you can meet with your counselor each year to discuss and plan for college. Once you have decided that you do want to go to college, you should begin looking at different schools and begin narrowing down your choices. Regardless of whether you are planning to attend a 2 or 4 yr college, it is important to take the right courses required for entrance into the college of your choice. To make sure that you are on the right track, check with your Guidance Counselor. Please be aware of the Graduation Requirements. Additionally, be sure to check with colleges to determine exactly what they are looking for in future students. FHS'S counselors are eager to assist you in this process. Be sure to stop by and chat with us if you have any questions or concerns about college.
-Meet with your counselor to review your classes and to make sure that you are meeting all graduation requirements and college entrance requirements.
-Challenge yourself academically- enroll in honor classes.
-Select electives carefully...Make sure they do not interfere with your college prep courses.
-Continue to explore career opportunities & start thinking about what college meets those interests & have the necessary majors.
-Begin to refine your college lists.
-Start keeping track of your report cards, honors, and extracurricular activities.
-Keep saving for college.
-Get involved with your school and your community.
-Participate in enrichment programs.
-Talk with parents or guardians about saving for college.
-Continue to be involved in your school and community.
