 Goals
The Student Support Specialists’ main task is to provide intervention for those students who are at risk for dropping out of high school.

The Student Support Specialist (Triple S) will    create and implement programs and strategies that will aid in lowering the dropout rate for FCS.   Some programs/strategies include:
A transition program for selected 9th graders;
Parent/student information and guidance  sessions;
School/community collaborations;
Individual counseling;
Group counseling;
Mentor Program;
Peer Tutor Program.

There are several factors that could put students at risk for dropping out.  Some of the more common factors are listed below.  If you feel that your child may be at risk, contact your Student Support Specialist as soon as possible.

Low reading and math scores
Grade Retention
Number of suspensions
Number of discipline referrals
Pregnancy

Top Reasons to Stay in School

 

· High school dropouts are four times as likely to be unemployed as those who completed four or more years of college.

· Graduating from high school will determine how well you live for the next 50 years of your life. High school graduates earn $143 more per week than high school dropouts. College graduates earn $336 more per week than high school graduates.

· Dropouts are more likely to apply and receive public assistance than graduates of high school.

· Dropouts comprise a disproportionate percentage of the nation's prison and death row inmates. 82% of prisoners in America are high school dropouts.
