PART TIME SUMMER TUTOR

Posted 4/14/2009 Last summer, we had my son Owen's school year aide work with him two days each week from 8:30-4:30, playing but also spending time each day reviewing some school concepts and introducing some concepts for the upcoming year.  We found this really helped him make a good start in 2nd grade.

We would like to do this again this summer, but my son's current classroom aide won't be available to work with Owen because she'll be home with her new baby.  If you know of anyone who would be interested in this job, I'd take your reference very highly.  Right now we're thinking this person would work with Owen Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30-4:30 at our home, but we could be somewhat flexible about which two days per week.  I would think this would be a great job for a responsible high schooler or college student with interest in education, or perhaps a teacher or retired teacher who'd like a fun summer job.  We would hire the person we select through Haugland, so he/she would be paid by them through our state funding- normally I believe they pay $11-$14 per hour.

If you know anyone who might be interested, please feel free to forward this email or to post this.

Thanks!

TEACHER'S AIDE FOR CHRISTIAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL  posted 8/13/2008

We're seeking someone who would be available to work with a 2nd grade student at Worthington Christian Westview Elementary throughout this school year beginning Wednesday, August 20.  The hours are Mondays 8 am -3:15 pm, Tuesdays through Fridays 9 am - 3:15 pm whenever school is in session.

These hours will possibly be reduced as the school year progresses.  Last year, for example, the aide started at these hours, then pulled back to about 22 hours per week in the 2nd quarter, 18 hours per week in the third quarter, and 12 hours per week in the 4th quarter.  The reduction of hours will depend on the student's classroom success and the direction of his teacher.

My son Owen has mild autism and participates in a typical classroom with aide support.

We have moved from 58 to 80+ schools and need more Instructional Coaches.  The focus of the grant has changed to target specifically classroom instruction, assisting teachers in their classrooms, planning their lessons, asking reflective questions, and examining their own practice.

This involves instructional coaching of teachers in the Columbus City School system for either 15 hours a week if you work at 1 school or 30 hours per week if you work at 2 schools and carries no benefits.

The Columbus Coaching Project, with Instructional Coaches in Columbus'  lowest-performing schools, is fully in place for the next school year (2008-2009).   We are taking applications and answering questions about the coaching initiative, which is assisting and supporting Columbus teachers, and helping interpret data and planning classroom strategies for improvement based on data provided by the OAT's, and quarterly benchmarks. Remember, we are looking predominantly for retired teachers/educators who will work at least 3 days a week for $20 to 35 an hour as independent contractors. We are looking for personable people who have great people skills as well as the ability to assist teachers specifically in reading and math literacy.

If you or someone you know is interested, please contact John Dean, Grant Facilitator, Educational Service Center of Franklin County at 573-1572, or at my cell at 623-7675, or by email at [email protected]
