Having humbled the high-flying Wernham Hoggs last week prospects for a good finish to the Summer Fives campaign were all of a sudden looking much better for Jiggle. The confident and assured style of the victory against the Hoggs would need to be multiplied to make it back to back wins as Jiggle tonight came up against Caledonian Old Boys, a side not too dissimilar in the methodical style of their play to last week's opposition but one with years of experience at getting the job done. Could Jiggle raise their game and leapfrog the Old Boys in the League A standings?
Caledonian Old Boys 1 FC Jiggle 0
A goal midway through the first-half gave Caledonian their third win of the season and their third win over Jiggle by this 1-0 scoreline. The result of this one was rarely in doubt after Caledonian had made the breakthrough as the Old Boys used all their wily experience to ensure there was no equaliser on the cards for Jiggle. Jiggle named an unchanged line-up for this one as they sought to build on the good performance last week so David Leake and Chris Laker continued at the back supporting Dave Carling and Sam Cohen further forward. Caledonian immediately set about the task in hand in patient fashion, prodding and probing hunting for a weakness in the Jiggle defence. The fact that all their early efforts were stifled at source by a well-organised Jiggle did not deter them and they were rewarded midway through the half as a long throw caught Jiggle napping and allowed the midfield man in to curve his shot tidily in off the far post. The match was following the pattern of previous encounters with Caledonian more than happy to guard their one by taking ownership of the football. Jiggle were firm at the back as usual and Phil's goal was rarely threatened by the prospect of a second but against the knowhow in the Caledonian defence Jiggle lacked the guile to find a way through, especially past the man mountain that is Roy who became Sam's shadow for the full twenty minutes. The best opportunities seemed to be coming from pressing Caledonian into mistakes and this approach was almost rewarded twice during a second-half played amidst torrential downpours. The first saw Dave Carling force a wayward pass, Sam picked it up and struck a first time shot that Jeff in the Cally goal got down to well to make a fine save out of his bottom right corner. The second again saw Dave force the error but Sam's shot this time was pulled just wide of the near post. Caledonian saw out the twenty in calm and composed fashion to secure their third win. Jiggle moved back to last place after this defeat. The run-in as Jiggle hunt a respectable finish starts this Friday against third bottom Ifield Eagles B.
