Chances go begging as Jigglers claim point

After last week's surrendering of a two-goal lead, Jiggle headed into this match looking to capitalise on what looks like being a very close New Year league. Broadfield 5 were the only side to lose on the opening day, and represented another unknown quantity. Could Jiggle grab their first win of 2004?Tonight's report comes from a young student called Chris who is studying journalism at Lincoln University. We are happy to take this opportunity to provide him some invaluable work experience in the front line.

FC Jiggleitalittleitllopen spurned a succession of goalscoring chances as newcomers Broadfield 5 earned their debut point in the competition.

Stuart MacPherson returned to the starting line-up to partner Dave Leake at the back, while Dave Carling, looking snappy in some pre-match office attire, joined last weeks two-goal man Sam Cohen in attack as Jiggle looked to build on a solid start to the season.

The opposition were obvious newcomers to the league, but already seem to have the backing of Roy Ref, who didnt bat an eyelid when the team finally arrived five minutes after the scheduled kick-off time. Clearly they caught him at the right time of the month.

When the action did eventually get underway it was Jiggle who looked the livelier and set about Broadfield with some sprightly attacks in the early exchanges, with Carling in particular looking to unsettle the defenders. And it was Carling who created himself the first sight of goal midway through the first half with a clever turn from Cohens throw-in, before firing over the crossbar.

With Dave Leake comfortably tidying up any potential danger in defence, Jiggle continued to probe the Broadfield backline, and Carling was unlucky to be denied by the goalkeeper after some persistent approach play. Broadfield seemed to be struggling to set up any attacks of their own and looked to be there for the taking, but Jiggle were denied again when Sam Cohen broke through to test the keeper.

The second period saw Broadfield up the tempo and they enjoyed their best spell of possession in the match. However, nothing was getting past the human brick wall that is Dave Leake and Phil Laker was never threatened in his landmark 100th appearance between the Jiggle sticks.

Jiggles attacking play continued to look like it would reap the rewards, with Carling and Cohen again having half-chances to put their side ahead. Carling was in the thick of the action minutes later when a Broadfield defender appeared to climb all over him, striking him in the face. Daves angry reaction was such that he almost caused Roy Ref to dust off his cards and book him; although its unsure what he planned to do with the orange card he had hiding behind his back! Still clearly fuming, the indefatiguable Carling was replaced by Paul Eagle, sporting a new blue hairstyle intended to dazzle the opposition.

In fact it was a surprise that Eagle had wanted to come off the substitutes bench at all, as both subs had discovered the window to the Leisure Centre gym was open at such an angle that a mirror-effect was created, allowing a particularly well-endowed female (ok, she had nice t*ts) to be seen going through the motions on the treadmill.

The last five minutes of the match saw Jiggles best chances of victory. First Sam Cohen found space from a corner only to shoot into the side-netting, before from another corner, Eagle fired inches wide when unmarked. And to cap off a luckless performance, Cohen was thwarted yet again in the dying seconds, when his right-foot effort was saved onto the post by the Broadfield keeper.
