It was as you were at the top of League B after Jiggle and Hunchenbadback played out a goalless draw last Friday so tonight it was all up for grabs again as the Autumn Fives reached their penultimate week. Jiggle knew a win would mean they would enter the final day climax with their destiny in their own hands for only the second time. Any other result and Hunchenbadback would likely take advantage when they kicked off 2 and a half hours later against the sporadically attending Southern Celtic. Tonight's opposition was Two Left Feet, who had started the season poorly with six defeats in their first seven but had picked up with impressive wins over Motley Crew and notably Livingwell last week. It wouldn't be easy if the Jigglers wanted to keep up the winning momentum.
Two Left Feet 1 FC Jiggle 1 (Nick Rapley 14) The Jigglers will likely need a win and help from elsewhere on the last day of Autumn Fives League B if they are to clinch a first appearance in the Finals after being held to a 1-1 draw by Two Left Feet tonight. This was arguably Jiggle's best performance since the opening day win over The Blues but they were made to pay for a half lapse at the back and a number of missed opportunities as Two Left Feet held on to the point that stretched their unbeaten run to three games. On the balance of play with was just 'one of those nights!' Jiggle lined up for this 6.30 kick-off with a very attacking quintet. With David Leake unavailable for this one Stuart MacPherson was joined by Nick Rapley at the back. Dave Carling and Sam Cohen formed the attack with Jon Hawtin waiting in the wings. Three points were a must so the attacking line-up it was hoped would create plenty of chances. Keen and first in the tackle it was a highly promising start by the Jigglers. Good moves created early chances for Sam Cohen and Dave Carling but both were off target with the final effort. The pressure continued with most of the opening exchanges being played in opposition territory. The breakthrough so nearly came in the 5th minute courtesy of a bit of individual brilliance from Sam Cohen. Picking it up a long way out Sam made perfect contact with a swerving, dipping drive. Beat the keeper all ends up only to cannon back off the inside of the post and away to safety. Even Roy broke into spontaneous applause but alas it was still 0-0. The sense it might be one of them nights gained further momentum when a minute later Two Left Feet took the lead from their first real attack of the match. A quick counter-attack caught the recovering Jiggle defence the wrong side, Nick Rapley got back well to make a challenge but the attacker did superbly to get his shot in and dispatch it in the bottom corner. The classic sucker punch. Can't complain we've done it to others loads of time before! Only the third goal conceded this tournament but not a good time to concede it. The next few minutes saw Jiggle fighting to regain the momentum that had been built up before the goal and as it was half-time arrived with Jiggle still on top but unable to make headway into Two Left Feet's lead. Half-time provided the chance to re-group and from the start of the second-half Jiggle were right on the ball. Dave Carling, looking lively in attack almost levelled matters with a stinging shot inches over and Stuart MacPherson went close with a shot the keeper held well. Jiggle were looking more dangerous now, with Nick Rapley particularly effective pulling the strings from the back. Finally the concerted pressure was rewarded with an equalier four minutes into the half as Nick, found space several yards outside the box and drilled a low shot off the far post and into the net. All square and game on. Jiggle had to push for the winner knowing a draw barring an unlikely set of results in what has been a fairly predictable league would see matters taken from their own control. Two Left Feet were still possessing a handy threat on the counter-attack but Jiggle had to go for it. The chances came but the ball just wouldn't go in again. Dave was the first to miss the target by not very much before Stu fired over. Stu's corner found Sam whose low shot was kept out by the foot of the keeper, but the closest saw the ball break to Stu on the edge to crack in a shot which somehow spun off the outstretched boot of the keeper and found only the side netting. Roy's final whistle signalled Jiggle's sixth game without defeat and Caledonian still remain as the only side to beat Jiggle this season. This was a good performance but the rub of the green and a bit of clinical finishing proved elusive at key times in the game. Attention now switches to tonight's other results unknown at time of writing. Hunchenbadback were due to meet a Southern Celtic side that hasn't turned up the last two weeks so should have secured the win to lift them above Jiggle, as should The Blues against Motley Crew to keep them in the box seat. Gilly's Heroes and Livingwell may turn out to be the key result of the night and if Livingwell did us a favour then the winners of Jiggle v Gilly's would be guaranteed a Finals place. We await Yellow Jersey's update with anticipation. Whatever happens, Jiggle could still qualify next week. 7pm vs Gilly's Heroes. Be there!
