The Grim Squeaker

elysiun thread

Also known as The Death of Rats, he is the rat version of the Grim Reaper. This is one of the funniest characters in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of books. I'm using the sketches of Paul Kidby from the book The Art of Discworld as my reference.

The aim of this Blender project is to model the whole character, and animate him in a short scene. I thought that, being a skeleton, it should be easy, but I didn't take the cloak into account. We'll just have to see how it comes out.

This is my second try on the character, and I think I'm off to a better start with this one.

I've made the snout part of the skull shorter, and rotated the eye sockets forward a bit. This also meant that the brain grew, which allows for cognative processing, and maybe even self awareness! (I've been reading too much TP!)

updated images/movies soon!

And another update! I've (semi) completed the body and arms.

OK, this is the last one! Using colour bands, I've succeeded in giving the clothes a satin shine. I've also added his feet.

Tail added and changed lighting a bit.

I've started with the armature for the model, and I can move the fingers and head, but ran into a snag: How do I make the eyes & whiskers follow, because I can't make them part of the mesh!?

So when I got frustrated, I decided to do some more modeling! Behold, the Grim Reaper.. er.. Squeaker's tool of choice, THE SCYTHE!
