The need for tutors is great in both elementary and secondary schools. Training senior high school students to work with their peers helps address some of the literacy problems within each school. Tapping into the knowledge of students can decrease pressure on resources and staff and provide another avenue for students to seek help.
The training offered also works very well for co-operative education students placed in an educational environment.
This is a great way for students to get involved in their school. It provides experience, resume enhancement, and training and development. In some schools, this volunteer activity is used toward the required 40 hours of volunteer time for graduation.

We can offer set-up support for recruiting and advertising at the school. However, our main focus is in the training. In September, a full day training seminar is offered. Using the SCIL (student-centred individualized learning) method, emphasis is on peer tutoring and helping with homework and assignments. As part of the training we also have discussions around literacy in Canada, motivation, and environmental factors which may affect learning.
