| Sat. 10/12 11:50 AM | Braddock Road (VA) | W 1 - 0 |
| Game Summary - Lightning Goals - Mary Beth Tobin. A good and evenly contested match against a tough team from the Braddock Road Club in Virginia. Great use of space and lots of fine hustle by the whole team. Some fine passing and good scoring chances. Kate Hartman played a gutsy game in net, coming back from an injury after a BRYC forward slid into Kate feet first. Some great runs by Bridget Morrin kept the BRYC defense back on their heels. The entire team moved up and down the field both on offense and defense - truly a fine game to watch. | ||
| Sat. 10/12 - 3:30 PM | Mt. Laurel | L 0 - 1 |
| Game Summary - Sometimes even the team that plays better doesn't come away with the victory. That was surely the case with our 2nd game on Saturday. The match was all knotted 0-0 at half time. We carried the play to our opponents from Mt. Laurel and despite having the lion's share of scoring chances we came away empty handed in this match. Kate Hartman a true gamer returned to start in goal after a visit to be patched up at the trainer's tent. Unfortunately we had to do without the services of Danielle Little who although playing sick in the first game was unable to answer the bell for our 2nd match of the day. Our team hung in this tough match, despite enduring some very tough fouls by Mt. Laurel. Mary Beth Tobin was knocked out the game on charge from behind but showing true toughness, she returned to the lineup a few minutes later. Kate Gavaghan was taken down hard from behind, agruably a red card offense, unfortunately we were not able to convert the free kick. We continued to press for an equalizer up until the final whistle. | ||
| Sun. 10/13 - 9:10 AM | Bricktown Sting | L 1 - 3 |
| Game Summary - Lightning Goals - Bridgent Morrin. Those that know our team would never describe us as a morning team. Luckily a delay in getting a full referee crew allowed the late arriving Lightning players to shake the cobwebs loose. We actually jumped out of the gate early putting pressure on the Sting and coming up with a goal on a nice effort by Bridget Morrin about midway through the first half. Unfortunately the Sting came back for an equalizer about 10 mins later and we finished the half tied 1-1. Once again playing an older and slightly more physical team, seemed to break the momentum we had established in the first half, play swung to the Sting during the second half and Kate Hartman was knocked from the game during a scramble for a loose ball which ended with the Sting going up 2-1. The Lightning bounced back and we had several chances for goals in the 2nd half, Jen Burke served up a nice corner that Bridge Morrin headed toward the corner but it was saved by the diving Sting keeper. Unfortunately in this match - we did not convert on enough of the opportunities we had early in the match which could have changed the complexion of the game. | ||

All in all a great effort by the team from start to finish. This tournament allows us the opportunity to guage where we are as a team and what we need to work on. Playing against slightly older and more physical teams we were in every game and had the opportunity to win each of the matches. Despite having a short bench and some banged up players - we gutted it out and played smart soccer for the majority of the games. In future matches we need a more consistent effort of contesting balls in the air. When we move up and down the field as a unit - we are able to sustain pressure and get quality scoring chances. We proved what we can accomplish when we communicate effectively and pass and make use of space. |
