The regular meeting of the Frostburg Lions was held Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Acropolis Restaurant with President Bill Munck presiding. There were 8 members in attendance. The Secretary�s report was approved as given.
Under communications, Lion Sue Munck received a key pin from Lions International for recruiting two new members to the club. The District Governor�s Social will be held October 4th in Hagerstown. The club voted not to take an ad in the booklet since we feel our money should be used for sight or community uses. The club voted to pay our District dues of $101.25 for twenty- three members. A letter was received from Robert Bullock. Lion Vision Days chairman, asking us to run a project for White Cane Days in October. This project supports the Low Vision Center at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Any action on this letter was tabled to the second meeting in October. The club received a thank-you note from Raquel Galliher for her graduation award. The Thurmont Lions Charter Nite is Oct. 22nd. A thank you letter was received from Lions Saving Kids Sight for our donation of $64. The club received an invitation to Lions Day at the Low Vision Research Center at the Wilmer Eye Institute to be held on November 1st at 9AM.
Under committee reports, Lion Jake reported that the chicken barbecue would be on Saturday at the picnic pavilion by the swimming pool. Pepsi had donated a sign which he placed on Falinger�s Hotel Gunter. He had ordered 300 chickens.
Lion Tina reported on project HUGS. We have received a check from the DaValli family from Cumberland toward the project. We have had over 3000 stuffed animals come in and have given out 1500. We recently gave animals to the Ambulance Service, the Y Family Center, Memorial Hospital Pediatrics Center, and Ruby Memorial Hospital. Some other suggestions for places that might use these animals included the Family Crisis Resource Center, the Dove Center, the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, and the Union Rescue Mission.
There was no old business.
Under new business, Tina Gormley reported the National Federation for the Blind would be having a soup sale October 18th at St. Michaels Cafeteria. She asked if the club would co- sponsor a program she and her husband would be doing in the elementary schools in Frostburg. They would take in Braille books and make a presentation about blindness and would donate books to each schools� library.
A letter was received from Karen Bingman of the Garden Club asking for donations for new Christmas decorations for 50 of the streetlights in the city. Cost for each pole is $125.00. The club voted to donate $125.00 to decorate one pole.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
