Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

This year First Baptist Church of Leesburg has established a Christian Alert Committee with the mission to inform, motivate and energize the congregation to take action in the arena of Christian concerns.  It further serves as a resource to the church's pastorate by providing research and information on social and community issues. 

The Christian Alert Committee’s web site will be helpful to the congregation in fulfilling the two mandates which Christ gave the Church.  The first mandate He has given us is the Great Commission, which was given soon after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We find the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19,20.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.”

The second mandate, the Cultural Mandate is found at the very beginning of the Old Testament, in Genesis 1:26-28:

“Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth… and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

He has given us the responsibility to be stewards of His creation so that all things bring glory to His name. 

These mandates are still in force today.  Living under the lordship of Christ, as the vice-regents of God, we are to bring His truth and His will to bear on every sphere of our world and our society. We are to exercise godly influence over our neighborhoods, our schools, our government, our literature and arts, our sports arenas, our entertainment media, our news media, our scientific endeavors - in short, over every aspect of human society.

The only hope for America is for Christians to become involved in our culture and to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If Christians would do those two things, our nation - and ultimately our world - would be transformed almost overnight.
