| C. MUSIC POLICIES The music used on Fundamental Baptist Broadcasting Service should be worshipful in spirit, form and content. It must be a positive expression of Biblical religious thought and feeling. It should serve to minister to those who listen, as would the ministry of music and the preaching of the Word in a worship service. (Colossians 3:16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:19.) "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. " The music used on Fundamental Baptist Broadcasting Service should be beautiful, it's religious thought or spirit should be embodied appropriately in the lyrics, in the music, and in the blending of these in song. It should satisfy the aesthetic guidelines of balance, unity, variety, harmony, design, rhythm, restraint, and fitness, which are the conditions of all art. I. The music used on Fundamental Baptist Broadcasting Service should represent the full range of the revelation of God. II. The lyrics of the songs should be good lyrics; they should not have to rely upon the music to carry them. III. Whenever Psalms or other portions of Scripture are involved, the lyrics of the songs should be true to the inspired Word or God. Such lyrics should at the same time not be overly generic, and should be free from excessive emotionalism and/or sentimentality. IV. Songs which contain lyrics other than that which is drawn directly from Scripture should contain lyrics which reflect a genuine love of God, but should always be in harmony with the whole counsel of God, and should be free from excessive emotionalism and/or sentimentality. V. The music of a particular song should be suitable to the text to which it has been adapted and should be free from association with secular music. The purpose of the music on Fundamental Baptist Broadcasting Service is intended to be used for edification, not entertainment. VI. Such styles of music which contain excessive percussion, syncopation and/or extreme chromatics should generally be avoided. VII. Fundamental Baptist Broadcasting Service does not announce the song titles and artist's name over the air. The music is there to draw attention to God, not the performer. |
