MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT EXPECTATIONS

Students in the math classroom are expected to abide by all school policies as specified in the handbook.

1. MATERIALS -  Bring all the materials needed for class - You will not be allowed to go to your locker - Failure to bring materials to class may result in a retention to be served within 24 hours.

$          Current textbook, workbooks, and Amsco SAT Prep Book.

$          Ruler & pencils with erasers for ALL math work.

$          Red pencil or pen for correcting.

$          THREE RING BINDER TO BE USED FOR MATH ONLY.

$          TI - 83 Plus or 84 Plus Graphing calculator. (these can be engraved with student name in the math SSC)

$          Loose leaf paper and graph paper.

$          Protractor and compass (All Advanced Math students).

2.  HOMEWORK - Homework is given each day.  Homework should be set up according to teacher's guidelines.

$          Do all homework neatly and in pencil.

$          ATTEMPT ALL homework problems. All problems are copied as given with no blanks.

$          CORRECT all odd numbered problems BEFORE coming to class.

$          All work must be shown - NO WORK - NO CREDIT.  Copying another’s homework, marking an answer                correct when it is not, and marking answer columns with correct answer without the proper work is       CHEATING.  If caught providing or copying homework, you will be held to the policy in the handbook.

                  (Pages 6 & 9)

$          You must have your homework with you in class on the day it is due.  You will not be allowed to go to your locker to get it.  Failure to have homework completed on the day it is due will result in a grade of zero for that assignment.

$          When you are absent, homework may be made up by following the syllabus or by doing the next problem set or         sets. Missed homework is due in 24 hours per day for students absent one-two days.  For extended absence it is         the student's responsibility to meet with her teacher on her return to school and set a time line for missed work.

$          Class projects and extra credit assignments must follow the guidelines set by the classroom teacher.

3.  MAKEUPS

$          Math makeup day is WEDNESDAY in Room 104 promptly at 2:10 pm.

$          Tests and quizzes must be made up on the Wednesday immediately following your absence.

$          PLEASE NOTE: Making up work is the student's responsibility and takes precedence over                                     retention, extracurricular activities and work schedules.

$          Absence the day before a test is NOT a reason to take the test at a later date.  Students should come in                        prepared to take the test as noted in the syllabus. Students know that the math department quizzes and tests on             alternate weeks throughout the year.

4.  EXTRA HELP

$          Extra help is available during the school day by appointment with your teacher and when the Mathematics SSC           is open for help.  Extra help is also available before or after school with your teacher.

$          If you seek extra help in the SSC, YOU MUST SIGN IN.

$          If a teacher asks you to stay after school for extra help, you are expected to make the necessary adjustments                to your transportation and work schedules so that you may stay.

$          Tests will be announced in advanced.  Quizzes may or may not be announced.  Sometimes a homework                       assignment could be counted as a quiz grade.
