Marching
MPA What an impressive show.
Victoria Helton did a great job
having the middle school bands ready to go right on time. Thanks to Maynard
Erickson, Amy Bradley, Kim Evans, Jessica Gronberg, Marina Hanscom, Kendall
Carrier for having their bands perform the Star Spangled Banner.* A big thank
you goes out to Jim Bruce, David Jacobs and Linda Boone for organizing the
hosting part of the MPA. It sure makes the evening run smooth when experienced
people are in charge. I was happy to see that two of our Superintendents were
able to attend the MPA. Dr. Norris from Sarasota and Dr. Dearing from Manatee were present for the
evening performances. Dr. Gayler from Charlotte county was unable to attend.
I would like to get not only our superintendents involved but our principals as well. Our gate was down
quite a bit this year. We only took in $5604.00 this year which is less than
we were expecting. Look for our assessment to increase this year to meet our
budget. * If I left anyone out,
it wasn’t intentional. All-State
Auditions The results from the September auditions should be released
by mid November. Some districts in the state had to deal with hurricanes to
get the auditions done but I think everything was submitted in time to keep
the schedule on track. Hall of
Fame The FBA Hall of Fame honors some of the most important band
directors and educators in our state that have made an impact on band music
in our state. This year John DeYoung and Ernest Hebson are being inducted into the Hall of Fame
and Joseph Kreines is being recognized for his contributions to the state. It
is a great event and if you haven’t ever attended perhaps this is the year
you can plan to go. The concert and induction will be held on Stetson
University campus in DeLand on Sunday November 14. I hope to see some of our
members in attendance this year. You
won’t be disappointed. The concert on Sunday begins at 4:00 P.M. November
Notable Dates November 13/14 Hall of Fame November 20 District Meeting FMEA A reminder that registration for the annual FMEA Clinic can
be made on line again this year. You will save money by taking care of this
early. A change in housing was sent out by the FMEA office this week. Check
the state website for more detailed information. Solo and
ensemble Music show I contacted Florida Music Service and cancelled them
bringing music to our meeting in November. Over the last two months only one
director in the whole district contacted me in regard to them being there. If
you have told your students to come and shop please tell them about the
cancellation. Classification
Most all of the classification forms have been received and
forwarded to the State office. Those schools who are not participating in
concert and or marching are still expected to have a classification form filled out and submitted. If you haven’t
sent your form in yet you will need to include the late fee of $100.00. I
have been informed not to send in forms with out the late fee included. |
