| A week later, amidst
a Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe that was decorated with balloons and streamers
of every color and shape, the Little Ponies all ate pies and cakes baked
by Peppermint Crunch's cooking class, who had graduated that afternoon.
Sugar Apple chewed
on a succulent mouthful of peach cobbler. "Mmm, delicious!
Peachy, I must say, this cobbler is fabulous, just wonderful!"
Peachy grinned proudly.
"Finally got it right!" she sighed.
Fizzy watched and smiled
as Tex and Magic Star swayed together on the dance floor. She didn't
notice Gypsy until she had come up beside her, smiling smugly. "I
got her. I found out her little secret," she whispered triumphantly.
"I was right!"
Fizzy was about to
tell Gypsy to just leave Magic Star alone, but she was distracted by Tex,
who announced to the room that he had a present for Magic Star. All
the ponies watched excitedly as Tex handed her a jewel box. Inside
it was the pearl necklace. All the ponies oohed and ahhed their approval.
Curly Locks smiled and nodded at Tex.
Magic Star, however,
looked horrified. She stumbled backwards away from Tex, who looked
completely bewildered.
Gypsy emerged onto
the floor. "Go on, dearie," she cooed smugly. "Try it on!"
Magic Star just stared
helplessly.
"Of course, trying
the pearls on --" continued Gypsy, "-- would mean first removing your star
sapphire."
Tex leaned over to
her and spoke gently. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have given them
to you in front of everyone. If you don't like them, that's okay."
Magic Star fought the
tears unsuccessfully. "They're beautiful, Tex. Thank you."
Gypsy could stand it
no more. "Tex, this is for your own good. Magic Star has been
lying to you all this time!" And with that, she stepped forward and
broke the clasp on Magic Star's sapphire pendant with her unicorn.
The pendant fell to
the floor, and Tex watched helplessly as his Magic Star vanished into thin
air.
"NO!" he cried out,
"No! Please don't be gone! Please don't be gone forever!"
He sank to the floor. Then he heard a soft, high-pitched voice call his
name. "Tex?"
Tex looked around and
saw no one. Then he lifted up the sapphire pendant. Under the
pendant was a petite pony. An orange petite pony with curly lavender
hair. It was Magic Star!
He gasped. "You
. . . you're . . . a . . . pe-petite pony!" Poor little Magic Star
couldn't even meet his gaze. She was too ashamed. "I'm so,
so sorry, Tex. When we met on the Net, I liked you so much!
I tried to think of a way to tell you I was a petite pony and that we could
never be a couple, but I didn't want to. So I used all of my pony
magic, and then some, to make myself this pendant. When I wear it,
it turns me into a full-size pony . . . like you." She sobbed.
"I'm so sorry I didn't tell you! I'm so sorry I let us fall in love
without telling you! I'm sorry to all of you. Thank you, Gypsy,
for not being afraid to uncover my secret. I know it was wrong to
pretend I was something I'm not."
Gypsy looked at the
floor to hide the tears on her cheeks, fearing she had just destroyed Tex's
chances for happiness.
Tex picked his tiny
Magic Star up off of the floor and held her on one of his giant hooves.
"Magic Star," he said softly, "Long before we ever saw each other, I told
you that it didn't matter what you looked like. I meant that.
Didn't you believe me? I love you!"
Magic Star sniffed
back her tears and smiled. "I love you, too, Tex!"
With one swift stroke
of his powerful hoof, Tex shattered the magic sapphire, knowing that Magic
Star would now always be a Petite Pony. Finally, the whole of Ponyland
watched as Tex got down on one knee and said, "Magic Star, will you marry
me?" Tiny tears of joy came from Magic Star's eyes now, and she laughed
happily and nodded her agreement.
Everyone cheered loudly
and rushed to the middle of the dance floor to congratulate the newly-engaged
couple.
