The small blue box means that I should be able to breed for that type of mutation!!! |

Mutations |
Normal Grey: |
Dominant gene in all cockatiels except dominant silver. Males: grey bodies, yellow heads, and bright orange-red cheek patches. Females: grey bodies, pale yellow to no yellow on heads, dull orange cheek patches, and yellow barring under wing and tail feathers. |
Pearl: |
Centers of all grey feathers are yellow. Males: usually lose their pearl color after first molt. They look like normal grey males |
Lutino: |
Lacking melanin, causing grey to be yellow. They also have ruby red eyes. Females: White barring under wings after first molt. |
Cinnamon: |
Melanin is changed from black to brown. Males: after first molt become much darker and appear to be almost like a normal grey. Females: Much lighter color of brown than males. |
Carotenoid is completely absent and therefore they show no signs of yellow, orange, or red. Males: have white heads and grey bodies. Females: have little to no white on heads and have white barring under wings and tail feathers. |
Whiteface: |
Albino: |
Actually there is no true albino cockatiel. This is a combination called whiteface lutino. Melanin is absent like lutinos and carotenoid is absent like in whiteface mutations. These birds are solid white with ruby red eyes. They are virtually impossible to sex visually. |
Pied: |
Melanin is absent from parts of the body causing some feather patches to be yellow or white instead of grey. This is the only mutation you can see as a split. The split appears to be spots on the back of its head. Males and females are usually like normal greys with broken white or yellow patches. |
Fallow: |
Similar to cinnamons except they have red eyes and are autosomal recessive. |
Silver: (recessive) |
Both sexes are like normal greys, but the grey color is replaced by metallic silver. |
Any of these mutations can be combined to create a variation among them. i.e. Whiteface Pearl Pearl Pied |
Most males look like females when babies, but after their first molt, they take on their male characteristics. |
