Art
is nothing more than the shadow of humanity.
Henry James
The
Toreador were once the most powerful and influential clan in Baltimore, and
boasted the Prince as their leader.
However, time and changing styles have seen the Toreador's power base slip
somewhat and their members less interested in power - especially after the
death of their Prince, Sebastiano Garibaldi.
They do have the monopoly on the harpies of Baltimore (at least for the
time being), although one of their more prolific was unfortunately torpored by
Viktor Albrecht during a fit of rage.
Morgan Stadtler
Longtime
Primogen of the Toreador, Morgan is from Vienna, and has succumb to the
pervasive musical influence of that austere location. She is said to have a more than casual relationship with Prince
Albrecht, and it is possible that they knew one another before coming to the
new world. No one can deny that she has
an incredible, inhuman beauty and that she wields to deadly weapons - her near-perfect
physical form, and deadly cunning. She
is a great patron to the arts, and her international influence helped to make
the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra one of the city's few allowances for pride.
Phillipe Horne
Phillipe
Horne is one of the few genuinely caring and nice individuals to be embraced
into the host of the Camarilla. Art is
his life, his passion, and he has not found it profitable to backstab people,
to wheel and deal in the shadows. He
prefers to keep his actions entirely out in the open, to be honest and truthful
and create trust and camaraderie. It
sometimes shocks people that such a person could thrive as a Kindred, but
people flock to him and his fairness of mind.
Because of his popularity and his impeccable reputation, he has
successfully held the position of Keeper of Elysium for a good many years, and
there is no sign that he will lost that post in the future.
Dominique Crowe
Dominique
is of a younger caste of Toreador - she is wild and free and she utterly enjoys
her unlife. Her nightclub is successful
both amongst Kine and Kindred, and her music is, though not nationally
successful, quite influential locally.
Its orchestral strains and passionate rhythms, soaring and dipping,
rising and falling, can be heard filling her club, and when she decides to get up
in the DJ booth, the dance floor simply goes wild with passion. She feeds off of this joy and this life as
others feed of blood, and she wouldn't leave it for all the world.
Eliza Day
Eliza
is well-known amongst the Kindred of Baltimore for her beautiful paintings, her
charm, her wit, and her deeply conflicting moods. When she is feeling creative, her art and her activities in the
art world are unparalleled. However, she
is often burdened with crippling depression, and the feeling the she has lost
something - and she cannot even remember what it is she is searching for. Having recently scored a coup with her new
Gallery and looking to gain even more power and influence, Eliza continuously
gains more and more power amongst the Kindred of Baltimore, making no enemies
and many friends. She was the first to
discover the true clan of Michael Valentine, and used that information to gain
her position in Kindred society rapidly and succinctly. She is now poised on the brink of real
power, and is prepared to go to great ends to acquire that power.
Julius
Namir
Once an
Antitribu from Philadelphia, Julius left for Baltimore in order to find
humanity and structure. Disgusted by
the Toreador Antitribu focus on death and decay, and the bestial nature of the Sabbat,
Julius helped the Tremere of Philadelphia hold off a siege on their chantry in
exchange for their help in escaping to Baltimore. He arrived recently and has begun the process of adapting to
unlife, Cammarilla-style.
Toreador
Holdings
The
Toreador have more territories, buildings, and influence than any other
Camarilla clan in Baltimore save perhaps the Ventrue. The Baltimore Club is the home to the harpies, and is owned by
Morgan Stadtler (through a net of middlemen).
The Baltimore Museum of Art is controlled by Phillipe Horne, Keeper of
Elysium, and its Statuary Garden is one of the primary meeting places of the
Clan of the Rose. Geisha, Dominique
Crowe's nightclub, serves as meeting place for any upstanding Kindred
(especially younger ones). The Lyric
Opera house, owned in the shadows by Morgan Stadtler and operated by Phillipe
Horne, serves as the home for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, location of
Baltimore's bachelor cotillions (something attended by all of the Toreador),
and primary conference hall for the Kindred - not to mention the most prominent
Elysium in the city. The list of
Toreador influences is nearly infinite - almost every artist, gallery, and
minor museum in the city and the surrounding area is at least partially
controlled by the Toreador. But all of
this is pale in comparison to the absolute power the Toreador once had over
Baltimore, and the long dead influence the Clan of the Rose held over all of
Maryland.
