General Motors has a long history of leadership in automotive safety research, development and testing. While the federal government specifies a variety of safety tests for vehicles,
GM goes beyond those guidelines to help further ensure high levels of vehicle safety for GM owners. GM works hard to help keep your family safe by performing more tests, with many different sized test dummies, than are required by the government. GM is the research and engineering leader in developing technology that helps Chevrolet owners avoid collisions and helps protect them in the event a crash occurs.
Standard four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) helps
maintain steering control and minimizes wheel lockup on most slippery surfaces.
Standard automatic Daytime Running Lamps make the
vehicle more visible during daylight hours.
Horn can be operated by pressing anywhere on the steering wheel hub pad covering the air bag (under 8,600 lbs. GVWR).
Brake/transmission shift interlock (automatic transmissions) prevents the vehicle from being shifted out of Park without first depressing the brake pedal.
Starter interlock switch (manual transmissions) prevents the starter from engaging unless the clutch pedal is depressed.
Standard driver air bag and right front-passenger air bag, designed for use with safety belts, help restrain the driver and front passenger in the event of a moderate to severe frontal impact (in applicable model). A switch deactivates the passenger-side air bag when using a rear-facing infant carrier in the front seat in Regular- and Extended-Cab models below 8,600 lbs. GVWR.
To encourage the use of safety belts, the safety belt warning lamp remains activated for 75 seconds, or until the drivers safety belt is fastened. Unfastening the safety belt with the ignition on reactivates the warning system.
Front and rear crush zones are designed to help absorb
energy by deforming in a controlled manner in a crash.
Laminated urethane-bonded windshield safety glass and
tempered side and rear safety glass help reduce occupant injuries.
Energy-absorbing steering column can help reduce crash forces to the drivers torso should the driver impact the steering wheel.
Front outboard head restraints.
Manual lap/shoulder safety belts at outboard positions and lap belts at center positions. Includes height adjusters at outboard positions.
