WARREN, Mich. -- Chevrolet�s truck lineup posted its best April sales in history with its full-size Suburban sport utility vehicle leading the charge.

April truck sales at Chevrolet amounted to 130,840, a three percent increase from the same 1996 period (127,234). Suburban�s April sales were 7,946 units, an eight percent increase from April 1996 sales (7,352). Also contributing to the record month were sales of the compact S-10 Pickup with 20,238 units, an increase of 18 percent from the same year-ago period (17,159) and the full-size C/K Pickup with sales of 46,700 units for April, increasing six percent from April 1996 sales (44,130).

Among Chevrolet�s newest products, the Venture minivan is a standout for the month, increasing sales 85 percent compared with April 1996 (5,676 v. 3,062).

While Chevrolet car sales are down this month, Malibu, the Motor Trend Car of the Year, continues to be well received in the marketplace. Malibu posted an 11 percent increase for April compared with last month (13,653 v. 12,260).
