VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

BLOOD: Help out at blood drives. Blood drives are help at SUNY-Geneseo and other areas in Livingston County. For example, a volunteer could be a greater or work in the canteen during a blood drive. Perhaps upi would like to help the Chapter make telephone calls to remind people about future drives?

COMPUTER MANAGEMENT: Learn about data base management the fun and east way! Help is desperately needed in-putting names into the Red Cross data base. Training will be given. Help is needed to maintain and update the Chapter's Web Page.

DISASTER: Become a member of the Disaster Action Team (DAT). The Red Cross responds to both big and small disasters, such as an ice storm or single family fire. Training is required, and begins with a three hour video based course called Intro to Disasters.

HEALTH & SAFETY: Each month, the local Red Cross sponsors a first aid and CPR course in Geneseo. Volunteers would be needed to help set up the class room for the course (I.e.: prepare manikins, video, exams, etc.) Once you have been trained in first aid or CPR, you could take further instruction to become an instructor.

HEATING PROGRAMS: Last year, the Chapter helped 118 low income families who were having trouble making payments on heir heating bill or couldn't afford to buy fuel. Volunteers would interview clients to see if they are eligible for Red Cross assistance.

OTHER: Help is always useful in the chapter offices. Examples of help needed are preparing bulk mailings, stuffing envelopes, and/or preparing course materials for disaster institute in April.
