Sports Science
In the past I coached a small group of juniors.  Since moving to the UK, I have not pursued personal coaching, although I'm happy to offer advice whenever.
My Philosophy: While their young teach them to be fast and have sound technique.  Orienteering is all about getting the basics right, and I think it is important to develop the basic skills well, and to install basic plans which they can develop further in theor own style once they have mastered the basics.  Too many orienteers in Australia don't know how to orienteer when they reach elites.  Physically it is important to be train like a runner from an early age, that doesn't mean flog them while their young.  Too many orienteers though are too slow, if you can run faster, think how many more mistakes you can get away with, but more importantly, how much higher your potential in any given race is.  If you can't run the winner's time whilst following them, how are you ever going to win by yourself.
Current athletes I help coach (4 in 2001 National Junior Team!):
Kerrin Rattray - 2000 & 2001 JWOC team, superstar in the making, already dominating juniors, he is a Rattray after all
Jamie Potter - 2000 & 2001 JWOC team, very talented, how else can you be so good without much work.
Simon Goddard - 2001 JWOC team, deserved place in his first Australian team this year.
Mace Neve - 2001 JWOC team, made the team first time
she tried and if the genes tell you anything, look out.
Erin Post - showing promise at such a young age

You can read more about the partnership I worked in by going through this
powerpoint presentation, get an insight into our philosophy of providing physiological support, and see an example presentation I made to a Badminton squad.
Orienteering Sport Science Resources

What I hope to do is set up a series of resources linking sport science and orienteering
(if there is a link, there is at least something there).  With time I aim to have areas covered such as:

Physical Training Guidelines

Using new GPS technology and heart rate data in training and for race analysis

Strength and Conditioning - specific for Orienteers

Monitoring your Training Load

Tips on Staying Healthy

How best to Recover - its a presentation made to a group of runners.  It doesn't include alternating shoes, but do it

Planning your Orienteering training - periodising with a long-term view

Issues arising when Travelling

and more. Also, see the orienteering and sport science links if you want to look into it further.  If you have any requests/comments etc, send them in!
it may be easier to save them then view on the browser, but have a go!
