House of the brave at heart
House of the loyal and just
House of the clever and wise
House of the shrewd and cunning
The sorting hat song in Book 1.
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Set Gryffindor apart;
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
Oh you may not think im pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
The sorting hat can't see,
And unafraid of toil;
Your top hats sleek and tall,
Where they are just and loyal,
Their daring, nerve and chivalry
Where you ought to be.
So try me on and i will tell you
And i can cap them all.
For i'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat,
There's nothing hidden in your head
Where those of wit and learning,
If you've a ready mind,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
Those cunning folk use any means
You're in safe hands(though i have none)
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
To achieve their ends.
You'll make your real friends,
For i'm a Thinking Cap!

To make the world's best magic school,
"Together we will build and teach!"
The four good friends decided,
They had the selfsame yearning,
Why, i was there and so can tell
How could such friendships fail?
