| First formed in 1997 by Maynard James Keenan, vocalist of Tool, the original line up of A Perfect Circle featured guitarist Billy Howerdel, guitar technician for Tool, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, and guitarist for Fishbone; Josh Freese, drummer for the Vandals, and Guns 'N' Roses; guitarist Troy Van Leeuwin, and Paz Lenchantin on violin and bass guitar. "La Cascade de Prenoms Poure une Mer de Noms", french for " the stream of first names for a sea of names", the original title of the debut album, was shortened to 'Mer de Noms'' before the release in May of 2000. The original name is still in the cover art work, in the runes created by Billy and Maynard. The alphabet is fairly easy to translate once you know that the runes on the cover mean 'La Cascade de Prenoms' , reading downwards from left to right. Vinyl releases of Mer De Noms included a lyric sheet written completely in 'Elegant', the name of their more complex rune alphabet. CD releases use the more simplistic version of the runes, 'Myan', and only feature one line from each song. The three runes behind the logo in the picture below stand for A P C.... |

| The recording of the second album was announced shortly before the departure of Paz Lenchantin , who left to join Zwan, and was replaced by Jeordie White, formerly known as Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson. Also leaving was Troy Van Leeuwin, who was replaced first by Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails, and later James Iha, ex guitarist of The Smashing Pumpkins. The second studio album, 'The Thirteenth Step' ,was released at the end of 2004 and is definately just as amazing as the first.. The Thirteenth Step tour was incredible... two hours of the band playing almost every song from both albums. One of the most amazing experiences of my life! |
