Great site!
I've been reading some of your posts on Edmunds Town Hall and figured it was about time to check your site here.
You've had some super cars! That 66 Caddy is a beauty as is the 63 300. BTW, the blue Caprice is definitely a '69. However, the red one appears to be a 77 or 78 - the new body style was 77.
I had a 77 Cpe DeVille twin to your 79 - loved that car - my first Caddie. too bad the later ones were junk!!
It looks like your 96 Riv was a great car - I would have loved one of those - and in fact had been considering buying a used one until recently when I fell in love with the new Impala LS. Have you tried that car? If not - you owe it to yourself to at least check it out prior to signing for a new Regal GS. I'm hoping to get myself an Impala LS next year - can't wait.
Well - I've taken enough of your time - take care and drop a line if you care - I'm always interested in other car enthusiasts.

ouch! you have the patience of a saint. it is hard to balance the fine line between being assertive with a dealer and not sounding like a freak. sometimes i wonder if they (dealer personell and factory people) are even consumers themselves. for them to no
want to help you after multiple visits is just incompitent. as a note.... i make my living handling problems just like yours. my background is in automotive mechanical engineering and arbitration. i do try to see both sides but more often than not the co
sumer is usually getting the bad end of the stick. your problem with the alignment should have been taken care of by the second visit. however, it sounds like it has been resolved. getting to see multiple manufactures for both autos and tires; you would b
shocked to see how many complaints there are on this concern alone. in a nutshell, there are not that many things that make a car go straight. i won't get into the geek stuff here but the alignment is pretty simple. you set the car up "in space" in the p
rfect center of a rectangle. make all the wheels point straight ahead,(minor variations are neccessary for performance and other reasons) but buy in large they are straight. if the car is on a flat road no geomerty variations should come to play to make i
not drive straight. variations can be crown of the road, (keep in mind this will have the effect of a lead tendency, not a pull). therefore, a crown should work both ways, right and left. if it does not- the car ain't fixed. the 300m has great "direction
l stability" and should feel like it is on rails. what happens here is they, (repair shops), make up for the problem by masking the alignment specs to compensate for the shortcoming. another problem is that when an alignment is done, it is done so "stati
". this means there is no compensation for weight and other minor factors. especially the drivers weight. a few years ago the resolution for the owner, (loved thier car), was to fix it at all costs! he weighed 210. this was enough weight to cause this car
(grand-am) to lean left which caused the once good alignment when empty, to change enough to cause a drift. the grand-am has light springs compared to your 300m so the effect would not be as bad but has some effect. if the alignment is ok and by this i me
n have a second opinion, (they usually find the alignment in the front is o.k. but the rear....yes the rear is the cause). if all else is o.k. it's a tire problem. in short, when they make tires they ain't all perfect. they are a bit like a shoe. if the s
le leans a little left or right.....guess what; so do you. cars are no different. i know this sounds a bit simple. thats because for the most part is. there is no substitute for attention to detail and to do things in order. dealers techs to meet the fl
t rate which the factory pays to align a car will often short-cut the process. not to defend the techs but the factories buy in large barely pay enough to pull the car in the shop yet alone align and test drive your car. there is more than enough blame to
go around as to why your car does not get fixed. the very sad part is that you probably are doing all the right things on your part to help resolve them. the problem is not you or your car. i wish you luck in your ownership. if you have any questions....l
t me know.
as a foot note, i also own a 300m. with about 3 hours work i have a zero defect car and would not drive anything else. it can be done.

I'm now on my third set of tires; new Michelins (at my expense); still have vibration in steering wheel; after many, many balances, car still vibrates; passengers feel vibration under their feet; have been to four Chrysler dealerships - they nothing wrong
with 300M. What is the problem?

Yours is a fine whine, tastefully presented!
You deserve a nice BMW or Audi A6. Your attention for detail exceeds Chrysler's current abilities. Perhaps with Daimler taking over and your pointed advice shall increase the abilities of 5 star dealerships to distinguish problems when they exist. Aft
r all, until I point out a bird sitting right there on a branch you may be just looking at a tree. By the way, your friends page is flashy.

Sorry to read about your problems with your chrysler car. I too have just bought a crysler ( concorde) and have not had any problems except for the road noise. Also, my car has the original Goodyears and drives straight. Saw your address in Edmunds bullet

Just saw your site and your "Chrysler-experience" comments. My wife and I were ROFL since many of your 300's problems were identical to our Concorde's past history (the rack and pinion replacement, the power steering pump). Our Concorde also had the fol
wing: added the engine mount shims, replaced door panels, replaced headlight seals/gaskets twice and now they're coming unglued again, the window motors are neverending, the windshield washers repaired/replaced twice, the cowling replaced twice which make
this one our third, and of course the current doozie of water leaking into the driver's side floorboard. What galls me further is that Chrysler was the company which was bailed out with taxpayer dollars back when Iacocca had his hand out. We bailed them
out and now they belong to the Germans but the lack of quality control, quality parts and nonexistent customer persist even under the new moniker of DaimlerChrysler. I'll sign off now because I have nothing but vile things to say about our experience and
I hope they go bankrupt!!!

to show scratches easily.

I absolutely believe every word of your saga. I'm the sad leasee of a '99 LHS (which I now affectionately call the "POS")with about 30K on the odo. Same problem with left drift/pull, been in the shop for this and MANY other problems multiple times. Includ
ng replacing the crankshaft at 24000 miles! Nothing is ever fixed right . I know they're just waiting for the warranty to expire. Talked to like I'm an idiot when I complain of no improvement. I rent cars several times a month for business travel , have
EVER had a similar problem- road crown is the typical dealer-mechanic BS story. I've driven about 500K miles in the last 25 years; I know how a car should handle. My wife's 99 Accord is PERFECT. It's never been in the shop for anything other that oil chan
es/maintanence . Check the TSB's in ALLDATA website; 75 for LHS and 1 for 99 Accord.
Last week one of the Goodyears had a catasrophic failure on the PA Turnpike- never seen anything like it. The inside sidewall looks like someone took a Sawzall to it!
I read somewhere on the Internet that there is a "product code" for replacing the Goodyears. Chrysler claims ignorance (not hard to believe); anyone out there know about this?
My advice; run, don't walk away from Chrysler! Beauty is only skin-deep.

Dear God, if were you, I would walked into the dealership and started shooting a long time ago. I don't disbelieve a word you said. I see nothing you could possibly gain by making this up. I gather this will be the last new Mopar you'll buy. I was thi
king about buying a new Jeep or Ram until I found Mr. Best's page. Now I'm thinking twice. Maybe I'll just rebuild the engine in my '84 Ramcharger and drive it another 150,000 miles. I live in Aurora, Colorado and I stumbled on to your page through the
Allpar site. Your car really is psycho, isn't it? Anyone that doesn't believe inanimate objects can have a will of their own never rode in Christine! I wish you luck in the future.

I have 1999 300M, purchased 10/29/99. I have the EXACT same problem you have with alignment, vibration, steering wheel moving, whole car vibrating. I've been thru EXACT same thing with alignment shops, balance of tires, multiple times; two alignment shops
state there IS a vibration in car, even after NEW tires two weeks ago. I've been to 2 dealerships; two service mangers feel vibration; however, owner of dealership I bought car from says "NO PROBLEM WITH CAR, CAR IS PERFECT!". District Rep. says "CAR DRIV
S LIKE ALL OTHER 300MS". (That's funny, the two 300Ms I drove before I bought one, didn't vibrate, and mine didn't either, until 6,500 miles.) District Rep. says there are NO TSBs on this problem. So, I guess the problem with my car DOESN'T EXIST?? Becaus
there are no TSBs ?? I've now escalated my complaint to Customer Service Manager (district rep.'s boss), and waiting to hear from them. This has gone on for six months; car now has 15,000 miles and I've driven car for eight months. Bought new. I think th
y are waiting for the warranty to run out, so they won't have to fix it. Goodyear did replace my tires free, they were defective. (Do you think Chrysler told me that the Goodyear tires didn't meet original specs for 1999 300Ms when I bought car? NO! Of co
rse not!)
During all of this, not one person has looked under hood, checked transmission, put it on a computer, no one has done nothing but change the oil. Thats it! Why won't they look at it?
I couldn't even get District rep. to drive it for more than fifteen minutes. I begged him to drive it for 45 minutes. He told me he would; then later I asked him, and he said he didn't. He told me drove the car for 36 miles. Well, that's not what the odom
ter said. He lied to me.
Chrysler needs serious help with the 300Ms and addressing the problems customers are having with this car.
Thanks for reading all of this. I sympathize greatly with your problems. I hope they get better.

All I can say is, man, you are picky. Some of your problems seem real, but some do not. Like the alignment thing. You apparently expect to be able to take your hand of the wheel for hours and have the car go straight??? Even if the car is aligned, thi
will not happen. Especially with a car with wide tires like the 300M. And especially since most roads slant from the crown.
Uhhhh - 05/23/00 13:25:28
Comments:
Ummmm. Any car you get in will pull to the right on the right lane of most interstate highways and to the left in the left lane. This is NOT because the car is out of alignment, but BECAUSE the ROAD is NOT perfectly flat. The middle is the high point a
d it slants down on either side to that water can DRAIN off. Duh. I mean, come on man. The pulling will be aggravated more with a car with wide tires. Also, the car is front wheel drive with over 200 HP. This means that you will definitely experience
something called TORQUE-STEER. When you are under acceleration and have the steering wheel turned, it can be ripped out of your hand in one direction due to the torque being exerted on the wheels. This is the nature of front wheel drive cars. The probl
m is worse in cars with lots of power. Duh. I do not work for chrysler, I just wanted to point these things out to you.

I've owned a 1999 300M for a year now. Havent had the trouble with that you seem to. I am having the defective heating in the driver seat. seems to work about 50% of the time even though the indicator is lit. Auto headlamp switch is now screwed too. Looke
out at midnight last night and all the lights were flashing off and on,even though the car was not running. had been noticing funny clicks while driving prior to that. Moved the switch back to manual until I get the dealer to look at it. Other then those
2 things, it's been a great ride for me over the last year. I live in Calgary Canada and would be interested in correspoding if you like.

Love my 300M. Mine pulls to the left as well. Accepted delivery of car in November of '98. The vehicle currently has 26,000 miles. About 4,000 miles ago I noticed the car pulls left. "No problem" I thought. Just take it to the dealer and have an ali
nment. The dealer said that I got one free alignment under warranty. The car still pulls left. Can't decide if the vehicle is just falling off the road crown or if there is really a front end problem.
I think it may be tire related because I noticed the left pull not long after I had the tires rotated. The tires were rotated just like the manual says; front to rear then right rear to left front and left rear to right front. My car has the handling
ackage with Michelin 16" tires. Car did not pull when new. Use to drive straight as an arrow. Incidently, I have rotated the tires in this fashion every 5,000 miles.
Did have the front struts replaced at 13,000 miles. I
