| GAME 4 Game 4 saw a rematch of game 1 with Carlos Zambrano trying to even up the series against Twins ace Tim Hudson. Brian Giles got the Orioles off to a good start by leading off the first inning with a single. Edgar Renteria came up and promptly smoked a 2-run HR to put the O�s up 2-0 and silencing the Minnesota fans. Hudson quickly recovered and retiring the O�s trio of power-hitting lefties: Huff, Delgado and Jenkins. Carlos Zambrano looked sharp from the get-go, striking out Brian Roberts and Larry Walker to start the game and getting a ground out from Richie Sexson to end the inning. The O�s opened up the second inning with consecutive hits as Vinny Castilla singled and Mark Kotsay doubled putting runners on second and third with none outs. Luis Rivas made the suicide squeeze. Chad Moeller followed up with a sacrifice fly scoring Kotsay and giving the Orioles a 4-0 lead through 1.5 innings. After a ground out by J.D. Drew, Scott Rolen hit a single and Vernon Wells walked to give the Twins runners on first and second with only one out. Zambrano bore down though, striking out Adam Dunn and getting Adam Melhuse to ground out in the clutch. In the third inning, the Twins once again managed to get runners on first and second with one out. Richie Sexson hit a deep fly ball, but Kotsay jumped the fence to take away his second home run of the series. but the aces got their outs and the game was still 4-0 for Baltimore after three innings. Hudson and Zambrano continued to shut out the opposition for the next five innings. After giving up a single in the ninth with one out, the Twins brought in Matt Herges to face Brian Giles. A walk to Giles and a wild pitch during Renteria�s at bat, put runners on second and third. Renteria singled them both home to give the Orioles a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. After giving up a leadoff hit to J.D. Drew, Carlos Zambrano closed out a masterful performance by striking out Rolen and pinch-hitter Howie Clark and getting a groundout from Vernon Wells. Zambrano ended up with a complete game 4-hitter, giving up 3 walks and striking out 9 en route to tying up the series and ensuring a return to Baltimore. |
