49,466 fans watched an exciting game at New Comiskey Park. The Arizona
Diamondbacks topped the Chicago-AL White Sox by the slimmest of margins, 4 to
3.

Arizona drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning with
3 runs using 2 hits. Mark Loretta kicked off the action when he drew a walk.
Tony Batista was next and he lifted one out of the park for a two run home
run (his 2nd of the season). After an out was recorded, Mark Quinn stepped
up to the plate and he cracked a solo homerun (his 1st of the season).
Chicago-AL had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

The win went to Steve Woodard(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Woodard got help from John Rocker who was credited with his 1st save. Darren
Oliver(0-1) was the loser.

'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Chicago-AL's manager
'But we have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'
