Exam Introductions
Introduction B
This cannot be called an introduction. It is a poor attempt at an introduction.
1. Definitions
The first sentence gives a definition of the plantation system, but completely ignores the peasant system. This student may have defined and discussed the peasant system later, but his approach does not show the ability to analyse a complex problem succintly and thoroughly, as does a complete introduction. The second sentence seems to continue defining the plantation system, but these are minor details not relevant to the question. Details should be in the body paragraphs, not the introduction. However, these details have not relevance to the point of the question.
2. Thesis Statement
There is no thesis statement in this introduction. Thus, the professor cannot see how the student has analysed the question. This suggests that the student has not analyzed the question, does not really understand the main points, and is trying to remember details as he writes.
B.
The plantation system is a commercial mass production system of the agricultural products such as sugar and rubber. It was developed in Asia as well as in Latin America and Africa under colonialism in the nineteenth century.
