Exam Introductions
Introduction A.
This is a very good introduction.
1. Definitions
The first sentence defines the two key terms in the question, "peasant system" and "plantation system" in one succinct sentence.
2. Thesis Statement
The second sentence is a very good thesis statement. It states the main point, i.e. that small peasant farms are superior to plantations, and also lists the main supporting points, i.e. labour productivity, crop management and environmental preservation. Listing these main supporting points clearly indicates that the essay will be divided into three body paragraphs which will explain these points. If the information is correct, the professor will already be impressed by your ability to analyse the issue, before he has even read the details in the 3 body paragraphs!
A.
The peasant system is characterized by small farms mainly based on family labor whereas plantations are large estates engaged in commercial scale production employing hired wage labor under the supervision of central management. Empirical evidence shows that small peasants in developing countries are superior to plantations in labour productivity, crop management and environmental preservation.
