Using Comments, Track Changes, and Printing in

MS Word 2000

Comments

Comments will be added to highlight errors in grammar and structure. These are added by Colin using the Comments facility of MS word.  You can read the comments in the following two ways.

Method 1 (Recommended for linking to grammar correction pages)
  • Add theReviewing" toolbar by following this path in your MS word menu bar:
    View - Toolbars - Reviewing
  • Click on "edit comment" - a list of my comments will appear at the bottom of the page.
  • Some comments include links to the SCD Exam Practice Error Correction Pages. Use these to improve your writing and grammar.

Method 2 (Quick)

  • Problem words or sections of your text will be highlighted in yellow.
  • To read comments on these sections, place your computer's cursor (arrow) on the yellow highlight.  Do not click or move the cursor, just leave it on the highlight.
  • The comment will appear above the text.

Track Changes

Anything that I add or delete from your text will be highlighted using the 'track changes' facility.  You can select how to recognise these changes by following the path

Tools - Options - Track Changes

and selecting colors/styles as you wish. I recommend:

Deletions
I will often delete unnecessary or incorrect words and sections.  This deleted text should be red with a line through it.

Insertions (additions)
I will sometimes write comments directly in your text (i.e. not using the "comments" facility above).  I will also add better words or expressions.  These will be red.

You can automatically accept or reject changes in the "Reviewing" toolbar explained above.  I do not recommend this, because I want you to note these very carefully and learn from them.  Using a button to automatically accept changes does not assist your learning process.

Printing

You need to print your exam practice, including all of my comments and highlights, then bring it to your consultation.  To do this:

From the File menu, select 'Print'
Click 'Options'
Select the box 'Comments'
Click 'Ok'
Now press the print buttion

Bring this to your consultation with your corrections added in pencil.
