Photography
& Fashion
Congratulations,
you have been selected by one of our photographer to participate in a
photography shooting session. You will find the available projects and
compensation details below. Your recruiting photographer will let you know the
on-going project that you will be assigned to. Keep this document for future
reference if you want to apply to other available projects.
Types
of Projects and Compensation
Boudoir
This
is our greatest need for models. We have hundreds of costumes and outfits that
we have collected, and we must get rid of them soon to make room for other
studio equipment. Boudoir photography allows women to give an intimate treasure
to the men in their lives. It's also a way for women to feel beautiful and
proud about their bodies. We want to create a series of "before and
after" shots to help market our Boudoir photography. We have collected a
range of outfits, props, and backgrounds to create these photos. These types of
shots are "sex appeal" type poses, mainly in lingerie and
sheer/transparent materials. As a special incentive -- we're going to give away
some of the lingerie and outfits we've collected for use in studio photos.
Models posing for this project will ALSO receive one of the outfits they've
posed in for each hour they pose. (If the model posed 3 hours -- at the end of
the shoot -- she could take three outfits that she posed in.) Posing time
required is anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours.
Women
must have a bra-cup size of at least B (C or larger is preferred). Women also
should have a waist that is visibly smaller than their hips (hourglass figure).
Men need to have very good muscle definition and be highly toned. All models
must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
Compensation:
$10-15 per hour; or one 8x10" portfolio print PLUS one outfit per hour; or
one vinyl 8 pose glamour folio of 4x5" prints in presentation case per
five hour session (value $30 per 8x10 print -- as selected by the
photographer).
Poking
Fun at Fashion
This
is a series of artwork using dramatic, magazine-styled poses in a variety of
"avante-garde" fashions (made-up fashions). The series using
"non-fabric" materials as clothing - in an attempt to say that
"modern clothing's function is not to warm and protect the body, but
rather its function is to protect modesty -- and therefore ANYTHING that covers
those special areas can be considered clothing". These fun and interesting
photos are a great addition to a portfolio. Posing time required is anywhere
from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Women
must be 5'7" or taller with lean or muscular builds, and between the ages
of 16 and 28. Men must be 5'10" or taller with very muscular builds, and
between the ages of 16 and 30. Minors must be accompanied by a parent at all
times.
Compensation:
$10 per hour; or one custom 8x10" portfolio print per outfit ($30 value
each print -- as selected by the photographer).
Outdoor
and Night Fashions
Year-round,
we are looking to do occasional outdoor and night fashion photos. This type of
posing is dramatic, magazine-styled poses in a variety of "high
fashion" types of looks. Work likely to include sheer clothing and
dramatic compositions -- and outfits will be wild and dynamic. Think "hip
hop" MTV video meets Harper's Bazaar in order to get an idea of what types
of fashions we're interested in shooting. Posing time required is anywhere from
30 minutes to 4 hours.
Women
must be 5'9" or taller with proportionate builds, and between the ages of
16 and 25. Men must be 6'0" or taller with lean or muscular builds, and
between the ages of 16 and 30. Minors must be accompanied by a parent at all
times.
Compensation:
$7.50-$10 per hour; or one custom 8x10" portfolio print per 2 hours of posing
($30 value each print -- as selected by the photographer).
Illustration
Testing
These
projects are used to develop new looks for our commercial photography
portfolios and to provide pictures to accompany articles which we are writing
for magazines, newsletters, and other publications. This category is most
likely to result in "tear sheets" (pages "torn out" of
actual publications to be used in your portfolio). Additionally, Images by our
photographers often donates time and materials to local non-profit groups and
fundraising activities. Models are sometimes needed in the illustrations of
these campaigns. This need is wide open and may include almost anything -- and
models are encouraged to bring their ideas to the studio as well. If the model
has an idea which fits within the studio needs -- it will be a great way to get
commercial-grade photography for free.
We
prefer to use models with very striking features or characteristics (such as
very old & wrinkled skin, or heavily pierced or tattooed, or groups of
models who can all come at the same appointment time), or with models who are
also doing posing for our artwork projects.
Compensation:
$7 per hour; or one 8x10" portfolio print per 90 minute session ($30 value
each print -- as selected by the photographer).
Agency
30 Minutes Free Test
If
you are already signed with a professional modeling agency (one that is not
attached to a modeling school), we're willing to give you a 30 Minute Free
Test. This is our way of introducing ourselves to your agency and to the
clients of that agency, and this helps build future business for the studio.
Models are allowed to select the clothing and types of poses for the photo
session. Up to thirty minutes and up to 45 shots will be taken during the
session. You will receive contact sheets (proof sheets) from the studio, plus
be able to make a one-time order of prints at 50% off normal prices.
Models
must already be signed with a professional modeling agency, and models must
have completed at least two other professional photo shoots (evidenced by
bringing in their portfolio). In order
to receive this session, you must provide your agency's name, mailing address,
and telephone number when you call to set up the appointment. The contact
sheets will be mailed directly to your agency when completed.
Modeling
Contests & Model Searches
Many
magazines and catalogs have ongoing contests and "amateur model
searches." Winning an amateur modeling contest is one of the best ways to
get started in your modeling career. It also provides you with valuable
"tear sheets" of actual published images for your to include in your
portfolio. There are many magazines (fashion & youth) which offer amateur
modeling contests. There are also many catalog magazines such as Venus Swimwear
and Swimwear Illustrated which have contests where the model "wears"
the product. Also, some magazines offer a "reader photos" section --
such as the motorcycle magazine "In the Wind"(tm). The quality of the
photo often determines the size it is run. Men's entertainment magazines (such
as Gallery(tm), Genesis(tm), and Hustler(tm)) are continually on the look out
to "discover" a fresh new face and help her launch her modeling
career. Getting published in a magazine or catalog let's the world know that
you're available for assignments. Are you interested in entering a modeling
contest? If you are, we'll create photos for you and submit them to the contest
for you. You must be over 18, meet all the qualifications for the model search
/ contest, and agree to sign any releases the studio, magazine, and sponsors
request. You must bring the contest
information in to the studio for approval.
Models
need to bring in contest information and meet the entry requirements.
Compensation:
you receive 80% of any prizes awarded, plus you receive an 8x10" portfolio
copy of each print submitted to the contest.
Women
with Red Hair
We're
doing an entire artwork series featuring women who have any shade of red hair
(from strawberry blonde, to fiery orange, to deep auburn). This series contains
romantic styled portraits with models draped in lace or netting materials.
Models over age 18 are photographed both draped (in netting) and semi-nude
(topless) for this series. We're especially looking for family members
(sisters, mothers & daughters, female cousins) to do group posing.
Women
should have naturally red or reddish hair as well as having weight in
proportion to height (although models with more Rubenesque figures may also
qualify depending on age and appearance of face and body).
Compensation:
$10-$20 per hour; orone 11x14" custom artwork per 3 hours of posing; or
(value of $165 per 11x14" print -- as selected by the photographer) one
framed 16x20" custom artwork per 6 hours of posing (value of $350 per
16x20" print -- as selected by the photographer)
Glamour
& Fashion Posing
These
types of shots are "sex appeal" poses including lingerie, semi-nude
and nude -- similar to fashion magazine advertising, Playboy(tm)
"pin-up" photography, and posters and greeting cards. In addition --
for each three hours spent doing this type of posing -- the model will receive
1 hour of posing of his/her choice (for headshots, portfolio prints, fashion
photos, etc.). Posing time required is anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours. If the
model completes at least 12 hours of posing -- she can have the studio submit
photos on her behalf to Playboy and several national modeling agencies.
Women
must have proportionate builds (hourglass shape preferred) and preferably a
bra-cup size of C or larger. Men must be highly muscle toned with large and
defined muscle groups. All models must be between the ages of 18 and 35.
Compensation:
$10-$20 per hour; or three 8x10" portfolio prints per two hours of posing
(value $30 per print -- as selected by the photographer).
Traditional
Artwork Posing and Darkroom Manipulated
Erotic Artwork Posing
We
accept the largest possible range of looks and ages (18 to 45 years old).
Models need to have weight in proportion to height. Men should have at least
some areas of well-defined muscle tone. We prefer women who do not have
stretchmarks -- but for those who do, we can cover up many types of
stretchmarks with make-up. Our photographers have built reputation for their
high quality, gallery-oriented photographic artworks. Because of the studio's
focus on gallery-oriented artwork, there is an ongoing need for models to be
featured in the works. These are mainly traditional black and white nudes and
darkroom abstracted erotica. Often the model's face is partially hidden or excluded
from the shot to create "anonymous" figures in the prints. Unlike
glamour, the models do not wear any "sexy" clothing; however, lace
and fabric materials may be included as "draping" over the model's
body.
Compensation:
$10 per hour to $30; or custom 16x20" framed artwork print for each four
hours of posing (value $350).
Stock
Photography
Stock photography is a kind of commercial
photography where pre-existing images are licensed for advertising, design,
publishing or other commercial usage. Stock photographs may be licensed for
advertising, design, publishing or other commercial usage. Licensing of
existing images allows designers, advertisers and others to economize on the
costs of production by using existing photographs. Our photographers generally
shoot stock, which can pay a percentage of the profit per licensing of an
image. Models may get prints of any of images, any time. This is a great
opportunity for models needing spectacular images for their books. Paid
assignments most often go to models with whom our photographers have already
established a solid repertoire. Modeling experience is not required. Please
check with your assigned photographer for details.
Commission
/ Royalty Splits
If
a model has a certain magazine, publication, or market that they want to be
featured in, the studio may be willing to help create photographs for the model
to market themselves. If the model successfully markets the images -- the
studio gets 50-75% of the publication royalties/payment, and the balance of the
fees is split among the models in the photos. Models interested in this type of
posing must spend an equal or greater amount of time doing artwork posing for
the studio. This is a method for models who are interested in posing for
magazines and contests to get professional photos taken as well as an
opportunity to earn money from the modeling session.
Other
Compensation
If
a model does not need portfolio or glamour photos, the studio is also willing
to provide them with services and merchandise of their selection which is of
similar value. With prior arrangements, models can trade their posing time for:
Wedding Portraiture
Promotional photography (for bands, actors, entertainers, etc.)
Artwork Portfolios (for artists who need gallery slides of their
own artwork)
Original Artwork (we create an original artwork using the model)
Family or other Portraiture
Photography Instruction
Miscellaneous
We
require that models sign a comprehensive modeling release which allows the
studio to use, publish, or sell the resulting photographs at any time for any
purpose. Compensation for "posing time" is based upon actual time
spent in front of the camera (time spent on make-up, wardrobe, travel, and
waiting for other models to complete their posing is not compensated). Cash
rates paid to models is solely the decision of the photographer and depend upon
model's looks, experience, level of cooperation, and types of posing completed.
Frequently
Asked Questions
Q.
How many outfits (different looks) do I get?
A.
A standard photoshoot consists of 72 exposures, 3 rolls each of 24
exposure film. You can change outfits between rolls, but sessions by our
photographers are very flexible to meet your needs to ensure you get what you
desire.
Q.
What time of day is best for doing my outdoor photoshoot?
A.
Ideally, the first two hours of daylight in the morning, or last two
hours of daylight in the evening. The sun during these times provide the
warmest light and most natural looking skin tones. However, we can work around
your schedule to shoot whenever is most convenient for you.
Q.
What kind of outfits do I need?
A.
Clothes that do two things. One, they suit your style and they fit and
two, you feel comfortable wearing. Clothes should reflect your personality.
When choosing outfits for your photoshoots, choose outfits that are not similar
to each other, otherwise, your entire photoshoot images may appear to have the
same look to them.
Q.
Do I have to bring anything with me?
A.
Your outfits, any special make-up you require, a beach towel (especially
if you plan on shots that involve the water, suntan lotion (non greasy type)
and any water/soda and light snacks you might want.
Q.
Is there a minimum age required?
A.
No, but all models have to sign a model release for photography to use
and or publish your images. Models under 18 must have the standard model
release signed by a parent or legal guardian and must be accompanied by parents
at all time.
Q.
Why do we provide free photoshoots to aspiring and established models?
A.
In the event, that our photographers are looking to update their
portfolio or website images, they may in fact conduct a photoshoot with models
on a Time for Prints basis. It is beneficial to both parties. Models get free
prints in exchange of modeling time and the photographer get images he can
utilize without the cost of paying a model.
Q.
How many photographs do I get in exchange for my time?
A.
Standard rate of exchange is all prints from the photoshoot, additional
enlargements, negotiable based on assignment. Please discuss details with your
photographer.
Q.
Is nudity required?
A.
Nudity is never required, as it is with some less reputable
photographers. However if you are 18 or over, and are interested in implied
nudity, topless or other forms of photographic art, we are available to provide
this service as well.
Q.
What kind of experience is necessary?
A.
Experience is not required.
Modeling in exchange for prints will give you valuable experience for
future modeling sessions.
Q.
Is there a minimum height requirement?
A.
No, but models should have a proper height to weight ratio.
Q.
What should I do if I have more questions?
A.
Please discuss details with your assigned photographer.
