| Farya Pirbazari, P.Eng. Senior Structural Engineer ============================== My Profession I am a civil engineer, structural designer, expert in lateral (seismic/wind) analysis & design. I have designed a wide variety of projects in the last 25 years, from residential high rises (42-storey is the tallest I have done) to industrial buildings and footings, and from reinforced concrete to steel structures. I joined Sandwell Engineering Inc., an international consulting firm with offices all around the world, last year. ============================== My interests First of all, I am a serious music lover--well, Classical music is my first choice; however, I listen to most any kind of music, from Baroque to modern rock. I play the violin. After some 35 years I still cannot get a pure, nice sound out of the fiddle, but let me enjoy what I play--whatever! I also compose music, or did once upon a time--when I was young. A Rondo in d-minor and a Ballad in g-minor are the works I like best. And yes, that's right, minor keys are my favourites--now try to guess my personality! Poetry and Persian literature are my other hobbies. Uh, before I forget, photography is recently added to the list. ============================== My Books I read "The Count of Monte Cristo" when I was 14 and immediately fell in love with the great novelist, Alexandre Dumas pere. I have to confess I was very much excited when I found my name in that novel for the first time then; that is, Abbe Farya, the old genius scientist who taught Edmond Dantes everything in the 17 years they were imprisoned in Chateau D'Iff. After that, however, my all time favourite has been "The Three Musketeers." This novel, along with "Twenty Years Later" and "After Ten Years", all by Dumas, is the best novel ever written by a human being. ============================== My Music I know, no doubt, Bach is the best in theory of music--he is a genius Mathematician. But talking about music, I love Beethoven and especially the gorgeous Symphony No. 9, this one in d-minor again! I am also a fan of Chopin specifically for the g-minor Ballad, and Tchaikovsky for the beautiful b-minor Symphony No. 6. You see? What I said about minor's?! As I said before, I listen to all types of music. So, I can add I'm also a lover of Celine Dion. ============================== My Movies There are a few movies I have watched a dozen times, or dozens of times, I'm not sure. ABove them all, stands "The Sound of Music", and then comes "Fiddler on the Roof", "El Cid", "Love Story", "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud", and neither the last nor the least "Music of the Heart". |
