A Raddish plant grows happily in an empty milk carton
Common supplies used to make an indoor garden include something to put the potting soil in which can be everything from an empty butter container to an ice cream bucket or even the empty coconut shell.
Optional items include the hanging baskets and the empty 2 litre pop bottles for making a greenhouse dome.
Making a small low maintenance vegetable flower pot inside your house might be to the only option for someone wanting to grow a little bit of food inside there house especially for those that are disabled or live in the city and don't have any lawn space to make a garden.
Indoor gardening does have its pros and cons.
The good part of it is that it is completely unnaffected by the outside elements and unlike the plants you grow outside it can grow food for you year round.
The bad part besides the fact that it is extremely small is that only a limited number of foods can be grown so you want to grow something that makes food every month or two.
I also warn about getting carried away I know a neighbor that had an expensive hydroponic farm kit she bought off of the internet which really was a waste because she could have made her own indoor garden at a fraction of the cost.
Hanging basket configuration
Or place it next to the window
I don't think I really need any more instruction on how to do this just put some dirt in a container, plant some seeds in it and place it next to a window.
When the plants are done growing you want to dump out the dirt into your bucket of potting soil and mix it up again before starting over.
Oh yea and be easy on the water you should only need a bottle capfull of water per plant per day.
The more complicated part is getting the plants to grow during the winter.
I decided to wait until it gets cold over here before playing around with the greenhouse dome so I can make sure I got it right myself before trying to instruct anyone else.
I did it a long time ago as a 4-H project and it did work.
The basic theory is that you have make a solar heater for your plant to increase heat and humidity because its no longer summer.
Its like tricking the plant into thinking its still summer.
