I Believe:

... to a large degree our athletic performance, and lives, are shaped by our perception of our selves.

... you don't have to race to be a winner: The first to cross the finish line necessarily had the best performance!

... fitness and speed is a by-product, rather than the goal, if you go out and have fun with kindred, non-toxic people.

... training and racing should foster the opportunity for each of us to get 'in touch' with a part of ourselves that has been too often hidden, possibly since childhood, or before.

... a secure, friendly, supportive loving atmosphere in which to train should always be sort, and evident. The only bully to combat is the one from within.

... training should afford us the time to tune in to, be aware of, and learn from the natural environment, of which we are part. It is not necessary to re-invent the universe!  Use its laws to your advantage.

... the path of least resistance.

Learn to feed on the energy of those around you, and in running like the wind  capture, and realize,  the grace of the gull, the quick reflexes of the squirrel, the importance of stillness, the power of a pebble, and the fragility, miracle, of the butterfly wing.

Go Play,  Steve
I dreamt I was a cheetah, gently
skimming over the ground, then
I awoke. Now I wonder: Am I a
man who dreamt of being a
cheetah, or am I
a cheetah dreaming
that I am a man?
