Now that you're finished reading Maggie: A Girl Of The Streets, it's time to start your webquest. Being written in the nineteenth century, Maggie was groundbreaking for the stark and realistic portrait it painted of tenement life in New York. In this webquest, you'll get the chance to see a well preserved tenement house, listen to one Italian woman's account of living in one as a girl, and also read some factual accounts of the role tenement children played in the workforce of the city. After reading the novel and completing the webquest you will realize how the social conditions of New York were responsible for producing a multitude of 'Maggies.'
