Recruitment
Letter Example
Hello,
I'm looking for people who'd be interested in joining an expanding Star
Trek Role Play by Email group that I'm involved with.
If you're not familiar with PBEM role playing it's basically just
creative writing with a group of Star Trek fans. Each person has a
character that they create and develop but everyone can utilize all the
characters if they wish. We all contribute to the story, each person
adding a small portion to it when he or she wants; and, of course, it
revolves around Star Trek. If you're at all interested, email me back
and I'll get you some more information.
Thanks,

Up Recruitment Letter
Hello,
I'm glad you're interested! In addition to directing you to the
websight, allow me to explain a bit about the SIM. First, the websight
address is
[Your ship link or Far
Point Fleet Link]
Each ship is represented by a Websight, with an administrator who
serves as the Captain. The Captain of each ship is responsible for
directing the missions, directing the storyline as needed and resolving
conflicts. If you are a role player, you can think of him as the GM or
Game Master.
Once a new mission has begun (either chosen by the Captain or suggested
by members of the crew), the players contribute to the plotline of an
unfolding story by adding their 'post' to the email list. Players
generally post 1-2 times per week or when they have time to do so and
some players may even post multiple times in one day. As you continue
in the game and develop your character the Captain will, from time to
time, announce that your character has attained the next rank.
Just to include a little but about posting mechanics, posts generally
begin with an 'off section' in which the player can make whatever notes
or announcements he or she feels are appropriate, and 'on section' in
which the actual post is written, and another 'off section' that can
serve as a kind of wrapping up area. Typically, two different styles of
posting are used - a Novel style that looks more like a written story
and a Script style that looks more like a movie script (including
dialog and 'stage direction').
So now that you know a little more about the game, we'd be happy to
have you join. Just take a look at this
page for instruction on how to start a character. Keep in mind that
you will be able to update your character's history and personality as
he or she devleops.
Thanks for your interest and I hope to game with you soon! And please
feel free to contact me at any time for direction. You can reach me at
this email address (be sure to
include this) or on AOL Instant Messenger. My handle is [Your AOL Handle or what ever other
messenger you use].
Thanks,

for Recruiting Independent Simms
Hi There,
Are you happy with the
freedom afforded you by being an independent simm, but tired of
operating without the safety net belonging to a Fleet provides? Are you
tired of ‘being alone out there’ but not willing to give up your
autonomy to a fleet governed by ‘the top down’?
Far Point Fleet is the
answer.
Far point fleet has been
in operation since February 19th, 2004. Since starting with two ships
at that time we have added two more ships and are looking for more.
Based out of Starbase 25, at the edge of known space, Far Point Fleet
offers a wide array of mission possibilities including new,
never-before-seen aliens and empires. It also retains the proximity to
Federation Space necessary for those ‘closer-to home’ missions.
So what makes Far Point
Fleet different? First and foremost, we won’t ask you to take orders
from an Admiral type that doesn’t know your ship. Far Point Fleet is
unique in that it is a democracy. Each member ship’s captain retains
one vote on all fleet level issues, which means there is no one person,
or even a few people making fleet level decisions for all.
Secondly, we are a tight
group of writers. Why? Because of our unique Starbase group. At the
conclusion of each ship’s mission, they subscribe all of their crew to
the Starbase 25 yahoo group. That means your crew will receive posts
from the crew of any other ships that are also ‘docked’ at the
Starbase. In this way we develop a sense of community not found in
other fleets.
In addition to the things
that make us different, we offer the same kind of support and community
building practices that other fleet’s offer, without the politics of a
ruling few. So, if you’re tired of going it alone, and are ready to
become part of the best fleet on the web, join us here in Far Point
Fleet.
Thanks,
Russ

I know many of you like to write "Trek" stories. I'm in a simm online
(I think it's part of a yahoo group, actually) that has some really
excellent/creative writers. We're always looking for fresh
blood...er... I mean... new contributors. ;-)
It's yahoo board-based,
so you don't have to worry about "being online at a certain
time". Since we have members in other countries and time zones,
there is almost always SOMEONE around to IM chat with, or storyline
confer with. You can post whenever it's convenient for you. There is
even a "training ship" that helps you to get your feet wet, if you've
never done this before and always wanted to try. It's family friendly
(PG13), it's free, and it's a VERY good stress release. LOL
So, if you've always
wanted to try one of these, but didn't know which to join, or wanted to
meet new people, or just try something different, email me privately
[Insert Email Address] and I'll be happy to send you the links to
check us out, and/or join. If it's not your cup of tea (Earl Grey,
hot), you can leave the group at any time, or switch ships.
Try something new. I hope
to hear from you. And feel free to pass the word along to anyone who
might be interested. Thanks in advance.
It feels nice "keeping
Star Trek alive". ::::smiles::::
