FPF Principle

The downfall of most Fleets is that there is no real input by the Simms that make up the Fleet. In Far Point Fleet, all Commanding Officers participate in fleet decisions via group discussion in one administrative forum, with referendum on fleet issues.  All executive officers are included in administrative discussions.

A separate Starbase discussion list gives opportunity for fleet-wide discussions by all members of the fleet regardless of rank or position. All members of the fleet are empowered to promote positive change.

Every member of the Fleet, regardless of rank, will be expected to treat every other member with dignity and respect. It takes every member working together to create and maintain a positive Simming atmosphere.

The fleet command structure is modeled after the U.S. Navy, and the chain of command is expected to be followed wherever possible.

Voting on Fleet Issues

Specific issues that require referendum include, but are not limited to:

  • Admission of new Simms (ships) to the Fleet
  • Removal of existing Simms (ships) from the Fleet
  • Promotions of players to the rank of Captain or above
  • Fleet Officer Responsibilities
  • Fleet Direction and Expansion

Each Simm's (ship's) Commanding Officer will hold the vote for that simm.  The Executive Officer may be granted the right to cast that vote by proxy if the Commanding Officer is on bona fide Leave of Absence.

All issues are decided by simple majority of eligible voters.

Eligible voters*:

  • The Commanding Officer of each member simm has one Vote.
  • Every Flag Officer (Fleet level officers, Administrators) has one Vote.
  • Each of the three Founding Members have one Vote.
  • Any member voted to have Life Voting Rights will have one Vote.

*
If one individual qualifies in any 2 or more of these categories, only the vote for his/her command shall qualify.  No one individual will hold more than one vote.  This also recognizes that the Founding Members and any others voted to have Life Voting Rights shall have the right to vote on Fleet matters regardless of rank or position as long as they have a character within Far Point Fleet.
