This character is responsible for receiving, analyzing and controlling all mission objectives by keeping abreast of all goings on in each of the departments on the ship as they pertain to a current mission. The Operations Officer is responsible for coordinating all the various departments on the ship, and insuring that the ship's power supplies are allocated in a manner to meet all needs.

The Ops officer is normally found on the bridge and is, in most respects, the chief bridge officer. The Ops Officer is usually, though not always, the ship's Second Officer.
