PERSONAL HISTORY:

Shyloe was nine years old when her parents, vacationing on Mars, were killed in a shuttlecraft accident as they returned to Earth.  This incident shattered Shyloe; she became very introverted and uncommunicative to most people who tried to help.  Her only living aunt, Katherine Townsend, took Shyloe into her home on Satora I, and eventually, with love and coaxing, helped Shyloe out of her depression.

Continuing to help Shyloe, Katherine would take her to the Embassy with her and give her small tasks to do while introducing her to as many other species as visited the Embassy.  Katherine believed, that even though Shyloe seemed shy, she could put almost everyone at ease in the first minute after being introduced.  Katherine had dreams that Shyloe would want to follow in her footsteps until, although she had thoughts like this before, that Shyloe's talent didn't work all the time.  If Shyloe knew nothing about a species, she was very awkward and uncomfortable.

Katherine had Shyloe tested, and it was documented that she had a photographic memory.  That explained much, Katherine believed, and for the next two years, she coached and guided Shyloe in the social graces, small talk and manners she would need in whatever career she chose.  Shyloe learned well enough to make Katherine proud, especially at all the weekly socials at the Embassy.

One day, out of the blue in Shyloe's opinion, Katherine set her down and said, "Time to be on your own, Shyloe.  I love you very much and want you to stay with me but that is selfish, and that is something I'm not proud of.  It has been arranged.  You will attend Starfleet Academy and learn more than what I could ever teach you here on this planet.  You need to see and learn that the whole galaxy is out there.  The time is right for you and you will leave tomorrow.  No discussion."

Stunned, Shyloe begged to stay.  It didn't work, and she started classes that fall at age 28.  An older cadet doesn't seem to adapt as well as a younger one, so Shyloe put her efforts into studying and vowed to make her aunt proud.

It took five years of hard work, and Shyloe, even with the photographic memory, struggled to keep the grades up.  The social and personal interaction classes hung her up a little.  Nevertheless, she graduated in the top 20 percent of her class and, with her aunt's approval and recommendation, applied for a position in Communications with the USS Horatio Nelson.

Shyloe Townsend still struggles with her timidity, but believes she will add to the Nelson with her unique abilities.
