Commander Marie Gage Mirtoh, M.D.
Sex: Female | Race: Human* | Home
Planet: Earth | Age: 32 | DOB: 1/5/2350
*Only those with access to Marie’s personnel or medical file would know that she is half-Betazoid. Biography: Cynthia Marie Gage was born to Cynthia Renee Gage onboard the USS Ambassador on January 5, 2350. As for Marie’s father, Ensign Cynthia Gage refused to identify him. The only indication of his origin or identity was a notation in the infant’s medical records that her father was Betazoid. Marie spent the first fourteen years of her life as a “starfleet” brat on shipboard or starbase as her mother’s assignments required. For reasons she never explained to Marie, Cynthia sent the child to Earth in 2364 to live with her maternal grandparents (George and Mary Gage). Two months later, Lt. Commander Cynthia Gage was reassigned to the USS Roosevelt. Marie’s last letter from her mother was just prior to the battle at Wolf 359. When the USS Roosevelt didn’t return, and the Borg threat was on everyone’s minds, Marie decided that death in the stars was preferable to life or death on Earth. She kept her grades up and entered the Academy as soon as she was eligible (2368). In spite of her half-Betazoid heritage, Marie grew up oblivious to Betazoid attitudes and culture. She didn’t really think to tell anyone about the unexplained hunches or flashes of insight that might otherwise have tipped someone to her empathic ability. What they noticed was that she had an uncanny ability to see through people, to pick out what they were trying to say, or were feeling. Hence, her ability was pretty much untrained and therefore limited. After graduation from the Academy in 2375, her first assignment was as Yeoman onboard the USS Valdemar. Her “insight” made her a natural for the job. Her commanding officer noticed her skills, and provided cross-training to qualify her for a position in Operations. His logic was that if she could “understand,” and “assist” him … then she should be able to “understand,” “assist,” and “coordinate” just about anyone. In 2377, with minimal actual Operations experience under her belt, she was transferred to the USS Washington.
