The following are the procedures, expectations and policies for mathematics class. Please read them for future reference. A copy of these policies is on file with the principal,Mrs Wasco.
Attendance
Regular attendance is expected. School policy will be followed. If you are absent and not on the daily attendance list, the absence will be "Unexcused". There are no make ups for missed work for unexcused absences. Missed quizzes will be recorded as a zero. For an excused absence, you will be allowed the same time extension as the days missed. This will apply for collecting assignments and tests. Tests should be made up as soon as possible. Finding out about missed assignments is the responsibility of the student. If you are aware of an upcoming vacation, field trip or activity that will cause you to be absent, please inform me in advance so that I can help minimize the effect of that absence. Perfect attendance will be rewarded with an automatic increase in your grade (B to B+, Cto B-, etc. This does not count from E to D-.)
Tardiness
Class begins when the bell rings. You should be in your seat, ready to begin, pencil sharpened, book and notebook available. If you are detained by a teacher or counselor please bring a signed pass excusing your tardiness. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, this will be recorded as an absence.
Classroom Expectations
My hope for all of you is that this year in mathematics is a successful one. To accomplish this goal, my plan involves presentation of new material, time for questions, your active participation, and courteous attention. Each student should come prepared each day with pencil, paper, textbook, and homework neatly completed to the best of your ability. In order to receive credit, your name must be on all assignments, quizzes, and tests. Remember that "doing leads to understanding." A calculator may also be helpful in some of our work. In addition to scientific calculators, we will also require the use of graphing calculators in AP Calculus and Algebra II. From time to time we will work on critical thinking procedures, employing puzzles, games, and problem solving skills in small groups.
Grading
The grade for each 9 week period will be based on notes, homework, and tests. (One test will be given each week.)
20% of each grade will be based on homework and quizzes.
80% of each grade will be based on equal weighted exams.
To receive full credit on all work please show all critical steps. Answer alone is not sufficient.
The scale used on all work is as follows:
97-100% A+~~~~~87-89% B+~~~~~77-79% C+~~~~~67-69% D+
93-96% A~~~~~~~83-86% B~~~~~~73-76% C~~~~~~63-66% D
90-92% A-~~~~~~80-82% B-~~~~~70-72% C-~~~~~60-62% D-
Below 60% E
I will keep your parents and/or guardian informed about your progress in my class.
Remember, I am available during my lunch hour, free period and after school to assist students who may need extra help.
