BUCKET BENCH
When America was first settled, every cabin had a "bucket bench" just outside the back door.  This bench held two or three buckets of water for drinking, cooking and washing.  Empty buckets were quickly refilled so the cook always had fresh water.  The settlers built bucket benches in all shapes and sizes.  The drinking water was kept on the bottom shelf.  The middle shelf prevented debris from falling into the drinking water.  The middle shelf held the wash water supporting the buckets at a comfortable height to wash dishes, clothes or your hands and face.  The small top shelf held soap wash rags, dippers and cups.  Today they are useful shelving and display units.
