He received his first vocal training from Mr. N. Simanungkalit at the age of 11. Soon after Farman won first prize in the Bina Vokalia vocal competition in 1988, he obtained a scholarship to study vocal with Mr. Pranadjaja. At the same time he also received training from a Belgian teacher, Annett Frambach.
Farman continued his formal education at Bandung Institute of Technology ( ITB ) majoring in Architecture and was often coached by an Indonesian tenor, Christopher Abimanyu. He graduated from ITB in 2002.
In 1999 Farman became a member of an International level choir in Indonesia named Batavia Madrigal Singers, where he met the conductor of the choir, Mr. Avip Priatna Mag.Art, from whom Farman received vocal training until the present time. With this group Farman competed in an International choir competition Florilege Vocal de Tours , France in 2001.
Farman also participated in several masterclasses presented by world class tutors such as Sonja Van Lier, Rudolf Jansen and Christa Pfeiler from Nederlands. In January 2006, he joined the masterclass camp for advanced classical singers in Thailand hosted by Ms. Loh Siew Tuan, one of the world's most prominent vocal teachers.
He has often appeared as a soloist for Batavia Madrigal Singers and for The Jakarta Chamber Orchestra which both are under direction of Mr. Avip Priatna Mag.Art. Some of the concerts that he had performed together with these groups are Handell's Messiah (2002), Rachmaninoff 's Vespers (2003) and JS. Bach's Magnificat in a concert entitled Glorious Baroque In May 2004. In July 2004, he performed in a concert of Broadway highlights entitled Broadway Night.
Farman actively performed in vocal recitals such as Malam Seriosa Indonesia with Christopher Abimanyu (2001) and in recitals organized by The Art Songs Series. Some of them were Schubertiade (2001), Liederabend (2001), and The Art of Folksongs (2003). In 2004, Farman worked together with Yasmina Zulkarnaen organizing his own duo recital entitled Beau Soir. He performed with Indonesian soprano Fitri Muliati, both presented various artsongs composed by French composers.
In August 2004, Farman had the honour of being invited to perform in a concert for the MARA Institute of Technology in Malaysia.
In November 2005 with Rangkaian Tembang Puitik ( The Art Songs Series ) he presented Schumann's Dichterliebe in a concert entitled Schumanniana accompanied by a prominent Indonesian pianist Iswargia Renardi Sudarno.
In October 2006 he got the chance to become a soloist of Coronation Mass by Mozart in Singapore and at Macau International Music Festival in Macau, accompanied by Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa from Japan. For this oppotunity Farman performed with Rao Lan, soprano from China.
His opera debut was in Dido and Aeneas in 2004, where he played the title role of Aeneas.
In March/April 2005 and August 2005 he performed the second role of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni. This was organized in conjuction with the Parahyangan University Choir and Jakarta Chamber Orchestra under the sposorship of ProXL.
His third opera was Samson et Dalila by Camille Saint-Sa�ns in July 2006. In this Opera, again he was honoured to play the title role, Samson.
