As I watch you move
Across the moonlit room
There's so much tenderness in your loving
Tomorrow I must leave
The dawn knows no reprieve
God give me strength when I am leaving
This was the part he hated. The leaving. The inevitable end to a wonderful time. It always happened. It never failed. When he found himself happy in one situation, it inevitably ended. Yes he chose this life. Yes he knew that it was going to happen. But that didn't help to make the unavoidable easy.
So raise your hands to heaven and pray
That we'll be back together some day
Tonight I need your sweet caress
Hold me in the darkness
Tonight you calm my restlessness
You relieve my sadness
He watched her from across the room as she moved about, doing what she always did when he left. He loved her. He knew that. He never took her for granted. He was a lucky person. He knew that. He had what most people with his life style only saw in movies and read in books. He was living it. That was a gift from God. He knew that, too.
He watched her as she packed his bag. He knew also that she would be with him a great deal while he was out fulfilling his dream, but did that make it easier to leave her behind? No. So he gazed at her, memorizing every movement. Every hair. Every twinkle of her eyes. The sound of her laughter. He could imagine, even now, with her standing across the room, the feel of her lips on his. Her touch on his skin. Those were things that he knew he would never forget.
As we move to embrace
Tears run down your face
I whisper words of love so softly
I can't believe this pain
It's driving me insane
Without your touch
Life will be lonely
He could see himself, walking across the room, pulling her to him. He could remember the amount of love that had emanated from her. The same love he returned with as much intensity. Even now, remembering and memorizing everything about her, the pain was so great he wished he could die. Even as he held her, the tears running down his face, he loved her. He knew he always would. Without her, his life was nothing but a hallow shell of what it could be.
So raise your hands to heaven
And pray
That we'll be back together some day
Tonight I need your sweet caress
Hold me in the darkness
Tonight you calm my restlessness
You relieve my sadness
Tonight I need your sweet caress
Hold me in the darkness
Tonight you calm my restlessness
You relieve my sadness
He wiped the tears from his eyes. The memories he would carry with him would have to be enough. He wanted more, and he knew he would have it. But for the time that they were apart, his memories were all he had.
Morning has come another day
I must pack my bags and say
Goodbye
Goodbye
He looked at the sky as the dawning of the new day approached. It was time to go. He didn't want to. He wanted to stay there, in that world for the rest of his life. But he knew he couldn't. He didn't like it, but he had responsibilities he had to fulfill. He resented the life he led that took him away from her. Her away from him. He hated it as much as he loved it. He wanted to blame the life, the people around him, but he knew that they weren't at fault. He was. And he knew that now, there was nothing he could do to change that.
Tonight I need your sweet caress
Hold me in the darkness
Tonight you calm my restlessness
You relieve my sadness
Tonight I need your sweet caress
Hold me in the darkness
Tonight you calm my restlessness
You relieve my sadness
He stood, wiping more tears from his eyes, and gazed down at the cold dark stone that was all that he physically had left of the love he once knew. He shook himself from his minds eye, where he relived the last moments he had with her, and re-entered what was his reality. A reality without her. Taking a deep breath he bent and kissed the cold, hard representation of the person he would love for the rest of his life.
"I love you. We'll be together again someday." And with this he turned and went back to his lonely existence. Without her.
