| In Farfallens history the band has experienced a few line-up changes, style changes and a hell of a lot of good times. So like all great stories, lets start from the beginning Summer 2000 Vocalist Alasdair Candler, guitarist Alex Darlington, bassist Tom Lawson and drummer Stephen Dempster decide to form a band. Some good fun is had at band practices and some funny songs are worked on but nothing really concrete emerges. Winter 2000 Toms older brother, Alex Lawson is drafted in as another guitarist. The bands name is confirmed as Asylum.' (ahem) Some more practices are held but once again nothing concrete emerges, as the whole band can never get together at the same time. However, a very early version of the song Running does appear. Spring 2001 Alex Darlington leaves the band as he is unhappy with the bands direction and eventually forms his own band, Comfortably Numb. The band change their name to Hideous Rebirth. Summer/Autumn 2001 The first song is properly written. Indecency was written at the end of the summer and the band really starts going. The song is finished in its rough form at the start of autumn. The band start to work on some other songs such as Running, Everything Changes, Veins and Conform. Of course not forgetting Shalom! Winter 2001 Hideous Rebirth play their first gig! Well, a house party at Al and Toms house but all the bands friends turned up to show their support. The band show their inexperience and Alasdair has a cold but the songs sound good and our friends say polite words to us afterwards and a good time is had be all, By this time the band feel the name of Hideous Rebirth is a bit lame. We change the name to Fallen, then realise many bands have this name. So while looking through a Yiddish dictionary researching the work Shalom, we find Farfallen. This is a Yiddish term which means, sunken to the lowest depths. We felt this was appropriate and took the name. We work throughout the Christmas to perfect our set before our first real gig at Seizure of February the 1st 2002. More about all these gigs can be found on our gigs page. Spring 2002 The band record their first ever demo in Al and Toms front room. The songs recorded were Indecency, You Lose and Shalom!. These are promptly put onto mp3.com. Indecency reaches number 9 in the mp3.com Nu-metal chart. A brief pause occurs while all band members conduct exams. Summer 2002 The band go into overdrive playing many gigs including the LRAP 2002 in Lichfield. In October of the year the band record more material for their debut E.P, Cease To Exist. The recording sessions are frantic and tempers are high. However, all guitar, drum and bass tracks are laid down in two days. No mean feat! Alasdair lays incredible vocals over Everything Changes and Dilate. These songs start to appear high on the mp3.com Nu-Metal chart! Winter 2002/2003 The band play many gigs including one in fancy dress with Al dressed as a Christmas pudding and Tom as some kind of lamp/Vietnamese freedom fighter! Also a year after our first gig we play a great gig at Yakamashi. Unfortunately, Alex D leaves Comfortably Numb in dramatic fashion. Spring 2003 The band decide that they are not happy with the direction the music is going. They start to write material which is much heavier, complex and more challenging. Then, in the biggest shock in the bands history, Ste leaves the band just as the rest of the band were happy in the change in musical direction. His reasons for leaving were just and the band continue to write new material which they are happy with and pause while exams are on. Summer 2003 Everybody has a huge summer holiday thanks to A Levels and GCSEs finishing. The new songs are getting better and better and the search for a new drummer starts. Alex Ds new band Delerium Tremenze are getting amazing. Things are looking good for the future of real metal in Lichfield! |
