| Pieris napi � Green Veined White (Pieridae) Appearance: The upperwing background colour of this fairly small and delicate looking butterfly is white with the veins having a dark scaling. Both sexes have a dark tip to the forewing, although it is more pronounced on the female. Females have two spots whereas males have one. The wingspan varies between 40 and 48 mm. Geographical distribution/ habitat: Europe through Asia and North America. Prefers fields, meadows and waysides where its host plants can be found. Host plants: Cruciferous plants, eg. Cresses and Garlic mustard. Food plants: Visits various flowers for nectar and is not fussy on them. In early summer though it prefers to visit dandelions and in the late summer thistles.
