Very little is known about Quistis' past, before Garden. Nothing is mentioned of her parents, or why she was taken into care by Edea. A popular myth that deals with Quistis' earler years is that ehr parents where killed
In the Sorceress war, mentioned in FFVIII, but of course this is just speculation, and there is no evidence to back this up, but it would explain alot.
Quistis did however spend her earlier years in the auphonage in centra's cape of good hope, with all of the other main characters, excluding Rinoa. While she was here, Quistis was a bossy young lady, this was probabily because she was older than the other children, and since Ellone had left, she had became the mother figure of the house.
