Carlos
Toro was
born in Mayaguez, Puerto
Rico. He was always fascinated with colors and
fabrics, and
the fashion
models seen
on television.
Carlos studied business in college and received
an A.S. Degree in Business Administration from
the Colegio de Agriculture y
Artes Mechanics in Puerto
Rico. He also received an A.S. Degree in Computerized Accounting form the
Instituto de Banco in Puerto Rico.
In 1987 Carlos moved to Florida in hopes of finding employment, but moved to Massachusetts a short time later. He worked in the banking field, but fashion designing being his real love he designed and sold fashions from his home. Not satisfied with working in finance, Carlos moved back to Florida to follow his dream and enrolled in the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale in 1994.
He graduated in 1996 at the top of his class with the “Highest Achievement Award”. Carlos continually finished projects ahead of schedule and requested addition work from his professors. He was also honored by being placed on the institute’s “Wall of Fame”. After graduation Carlos went to work for Annie Riva who fashions were sold in Saks, Nordstrom's, and other fine specialty stores. Carlos currently designs for a local firm where he also supervises the manufacture of the garments which are sold exclusively in the firms store, Your Choice, Inc. in Boca Raton, Florida.
Carlos’ dream is to design fashions for his own store as well as other fine specialty stores. He has most recently designed fashions for Debi Logan, “Mrs. Florida 2002”. He has designed fashions for her pageant competition as well as for personal use.
